Of the three days my girlfriend and I spent in Brussels, we were her for about 4 hours on both Sunday and Monday.
We went other places of course, Saturday was dedicated to our Cantillon visit, but this was our favorite bar in Brussels.
Maybe it's just me, but the "locals only" places are dull and full of smoke. If I want to drink beer at a corner Brasserie with old wood and mirrors, well I live in Paris.
My experience @ Moeder Lambic:
Great beer selection, the tap list is well organized and diverse and the beer is incredibly fresh. We tried about a third of the list over the two days and enjoyed every beer; each in their appropriate glass.
Honestly the prices for the beers on tap are incredibly reasonable, 3-3.5 euros for each 25-30 cl pour is more than reasonable.
I do agree that the prices for the bottle list are outlandish, but they have 40+ great beers on tap, there is hardly a need to even look at the bottle list.
The staff was knowledgeable and quite attentive, although when it starts to get later it gets pretty busy. One server and one bartender seems a little crazy; but they made it work.
The decor is definetely more modern than some may expect of Brussels, but during the day, the vibe is great. They play a good mix of older American rock and cool ambient music, they have free wifi (a life saver for us), and interesting people to talk to (we made friends with a couple of girls from Australia).
As long as you go early in the day, this is a great place to try a new beer or have a favorite Cantillon, great service, and a comfortable atmosphere.
My only gripe: They need a better website!
