Beer temple was my final stop during my St Patrick's day Amsterdam beer bar crawl. It is best described as an American beer bar smack in the middle of Amsterdam. Founders, Jolly Pumpkin, Great Divide, Anchor, Left Hand, Flying Dog; basically all of the usual suspects for a solid American craft beer bar. They also have a very good selection of European/Belgian beers, as would be expected, but the emphasis is clearly to be an American beer bar first.

The atmosphere was pleasant enough, maybe a little bit dimly lit, but besides that it reminded me of plenty other American beer bars. Quality was high and the service was outstanding. The bartender was friendly and talkative, and helped us decide on our beers with a few samples from the taps. Selection was good for a bar in the States, but for a bar in Amsterdam, it was incredible. For me it was perfect. Having lived in Spain for the past few months I haven't had access to any of my home town favorites. It was wonderful to be able to enjoy some Founders again. For someone who lives in Europe, this bar would be perfect too, giving them access to a bunch of American beers that I'm sure would be hard to find anywhere else. It's thinking of an American on a quick visit to Europe that I have a hard time finding a good reason to have more than a round at Beer Temple. For the prices (6 euros for a bottle of Founders Cerise for example), I think you're money and time is probably better spent at Cafe in de Wildeman, Cafe Gollem or Cafe t' Arendsnest, where you can find unique European beers we don't get in the states for very good prices. I certainly am not complaining about the prices or saying I don't understand them...importing beer from the US is expensive, I just don't see a good reason to pay top dollar for beer that can be had at home for cheap if you are an American on a quick visit.

All that aside, this is really a great beer bar and for me it was like an oasis in the desert that is Spain's craft beer culture. Worth a stop no matter where you call home, just expect a bit of sticker shock if you are from the States.

Very neat the Bierkoning and with a nice place to sit outside. Good and various beers on tap with good staaf.

Found this place on a day trip to Amsterdam. The beer selection was incredible when I went. I don't remember exactly what I ordered, but I do remember it was an American craft beer that I hadn't had or seen before. I also remember they had Westvleteren bottles available but I didn't get any.

The bartender when I went was very passionate and knowledgable about beer. After being in Germany a few months it was refreshing to be able to talk beer with someone that had the same enthusiasm as I did but with a new perspective. This place definitely respects American craft beer and is worth a visit.

BeerTemple is an American Craft beer bar with the same owners as Proeflokaal Arendsnest. It has a really great vibe. These people know American Craft beer. They had offerings from Green Flash, Three Floyds, Hoppin' Frog, and many more. We brought a few beers from the Midwest to share and add to their collection. If you're visiting Amsterdam, you MUST go here.
