I stopped into the Devassa located in the Flamengo district after stopping at Herr Brauer. Both are very close to each other (about a two minute walk), and with it pouring rain, I was even more glad it was that way. The place has half of its seating outside (but covered from the rain), and half indoors. Being alone, I sat at the bar.
For those unaware, Devassa is part of a franchise of brewpub resaurants. They have five Devassa beers available, all on tap (Loura, Ruiva, Negra, Índia, Sarará), the first three varieties also available from the bottle. Each beer has a different glass, and is served with a very large, creamy head on top. Loura was being the most pulled of the taps, and it was also the beer I drink with my dinner. Actually, I ordered a Ruiva, but instead I was served Loura. If I was more confident with my Portuguese, I would have told them they served me the wrong beer. That was my only beef with the service, otherwise it was okay.
I ended up eating chicken kabobs with rice and a few onion rings. It was one of the more affordable entrees on the menus, and I enjoyed it.
If I got the beer I ordered, this would have scored higher. Even if it is a franchise with middle of the road beer, I have no problem visiting another Devassa.
