12oz undated bottle poured into a tulip glass shows a cloudy, ruddy, brown body that glows orange when backlit. A generous 1/2 in cap of tight off-white bubbles falls to an edge-hugging ring, but immediately re-forms with agitation leaving tiny spots of lacing.
Vanilla, whiskey, and wet oak aromas are obvious with notes of caramel and apricot.
Alcohol leads the flavors of vanilla, caramel, and rye whiskey. Vanilla generally denotes sweetness, and reds, being more malt driven, are commonly on the sweet end, however the rye whiskey here stunts that to great effect.
Active carbonation is almost prickly but a soft fullness remains.
Overall a nice tasty booze treat on a cold February night.

The ultimate version of a basic red, and exactly what the beer needed to round itself out. Very heavy on the rye whiskey flavor, nice and toasty, with good body and alcoholic bite.

A: Poured into a snifter to a deep red topped by a finger and a half of dense light tan head that fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of sweet caramel, vanilla and oak with some slight spicy hop aroma
T: The taste on this one is spicy up front with some oak, caramel and vanilla. The rye barrel is fairly dominant. Swallow is a little alcohol, more caramel, vanilla and oak with some lingering spicy rye whiskey.
M: This beer is a little heavier than medium in body with a slightly oily feel. Carbonation is just slightly prickly while the beer has a semi-dry finish
O: Overall not bad. Decent complexity and flavors. Definitely not a Flanders Red by any stretch of the imagination. As a barrel aged American Red it does alright. Good, but not worth seeking out.

Had this on draft.
Murky rust color; barely see through.
Small off-white head; no lacing.
Strong whiskey smell, caramel undertone.
Thin mouthfeel.
Tastes like the world's smoothest whiskey; no wincing here. A triumph of barrel aging.

L (4.25) - Nice amber/reddish coloration here. A little bit of dirty white head.
S (4) - Not a whole lot of aroma here. A little bit of the whiskey, maybe.
T (4.25) - Solid tasting beer. I'd really recommend this to someone who isn't sure about barrel aged beers, as the whiskey melds with the beer quite well. That being said, the beer taste isn't too strong either. A nice mellow amber taste.
F (4.25) - Good drinkable beer. Not particularly bitter, and carbed about right.
O (4.25) - This is a solid beer all around. I'm not sure people will line up to trade this around the world, but it's a solid barrel aged offering from a solid brewery.

Not a Flanders red by any means. But it's a great beer with tremendous bourbon flavor. Very light bodied for barreling.
