Went here with SpinRSX on a Friday! Didnt have a chance to meet Rick but met his dad. His dad was bringing out new stock as we got there, perfect timing.
Real good selection, right at the front of the store so brings a lot of attention.
They had some good beers in the back too, but the front stole the show. Prolly around 100+ diff beers on the shelf.
Owner was really nice, helpful and wanted to try and get us the beers we needed.
If you took the time to look for some, there where the odd gem tucked away.

Would return again, was a good drive from Ottawa!

I found this place after watching some soccer in Canton.

They have 2 good sized racks of craft beer near the front of the store and a few staples (Labbat, Bud, SNPA, etc) in the cooler near the back of the store. The craft shelves are where the good stuff is. Mix your own six is the motto here, which is wonderful. Each beer has a price sticker so you know what you're getting into as well. There was a good amount of Dogfish and Great Divide, as well as Saranac and Southern Tier. There are also three growler fill taps.

I picked up 11 bottles, three of which were bombers, for about 43 bucks and didn't have to pay duty bringing it back home. I got some Great Divide stuff, Great Lakes, Lagunitas, and some Dogfish.

Probably the best place to pick up American stuff near Ottawa. While the selection wasn't the greatest, it was definately worth the visit. And if you're around on other business like I was, bringing home 2 sixers won't cost you any duty if you're honest at the border.

The staff weren't really available for assistance, but then again I didn't need it. They DON'T accept out of state licenses so I was a little stuck at the cash. I told the girl I would grab my passport from the car but my pops offered to pay which seemed cool with the cashier (something that would never happen in Ontario). The second time I visited, the guy in charge of beer was there and was quite talkative and helpful. He had put a bottle of 120 Minute away for me since it sold out so fast so I was grateful for that. I wanted to update this review b/c their stock is constantly changing with new stuff coming in and their FB page is updated with new stuff and welcomes recommendations.

Pretty much the best place for American micros around Ottawa, but nothing over the top. I'll definately come back here though, since DIPAs are few and far between in our neck of the woods.

Made the trip over to this place on the weekend based on the reviews I had read on here. It's a small grocery store that has a regular selection of beer (Bud, Coors, Miller etc.) at the back of the store, but it also has a decent selection of craft beer on 2 sets of shelves near the front of the store. The let you break up any of the 6 packs which is a plus, and they also don't charge a premium for single bottles. Everything I saw was within date; they even had some really fresh stuff such as Dogfish Head 60 and 90 Minute that was bottled just over a week ago. The prices seemed fairly reasonable and they probably had around 100 different craft beers available. Apparently the stock changes as the owner likes to mix up with different things. They also have a growler full up station with 3 taps. It's probably the best spot in the area to buy craft beer.

Big M is you basic small-sized supermarket, but it has a wonderful feature for beer lovers--a craft brew section.

In this section you'll find limited numbers of several beers that rate very high on BA. Dogfish Head, Southern Tier, Wolavers, Ommegang, Saranac, and many more breweries make regular appearances, and almost always with their staple beers and at least one seasonal. Lately the selection has expanded, but be warned that it is still relatively small.

With the exception of Dogfish Head 60 and 90 minute IPAs, none of the beers are constantly in stock. They are always filtering in an out, which bodes well for quality, but not so much for obtaining specific beers. The build-your-own six-pack concept thrives on their small stock/medium selection policy, so don't worry about getting ancient beer.

Best to check out the names and look into them yourself though, because the staff isn't exactly knowledgeable. There is one man who maintains the craft beers, and he is the exception to that rule, but unless you want to learn his schedule it's safer to do your own research.

Definitely the place to visit in Potsdam, NY if you are looking for a craft brew.

EDIT 05 Dec 2010: As noted by drewd0g they recently doubled their craft section. Selection has become phenomenal. Plenty of options and many seasonals to go with a better selection of staples. Recent additions include a wide selection of Southern Tier, Stone, Chimay, St. Bernardus, Great Lakes, Great Divide, and even Rochefort.

I really love this place. Big M Supermarket is my go-to place for craft beer in Potsdam, NY. The store is a small sized grocery store with all your run of the mill grocery items, a deli, and a butcher shop. and BEER!

There are 2 beer sections in the store. Yes, there is a BMC section and a Craft Section. It makes shopping much easier and it helps fight against the billboard effect of the big companies.
The section i referred to as the BMC section actually has some decent finds as well. You can regularly expect to see beers from Lake Placid Brewery, Saranac, and Magic hat in this section. as well as a list of different kegs available.
The craft section is right at the front of the store. It's one rack of about 5 or 6 shelves, with probably about 20-30 different beers (sometimes more, sometimes less). The beers change frequently and every beer is available for purchase as a single, no matter what size. a really great mix-a-6. They regularly carry DFH (60, 90, fort, red & white, Burton baton, etc.... all of em), The Bruery, Mikkeller, Brewdog, Oskar Blues, Ommegang, Troegs, Southern Tier, Avery, GDBC and many more.

Since this is a grocery store the primary concern of most of the employees is the other items. But one day i inquired to find out who ordered all this awesome beer (because it is kind of rare in these parts, and a little unexpected in the store). after introducing myself to the person in charge of ordering he is always very friendly and up for a conversation about what's new and what he's getting next. And the best part is when i asked if i can give him a list with some requests of beers I'd like to see he was very eager to try an accommodate me, and i was happy to see some of my requests on the shelf pretty soon after i requested them (double bastard, unearthly, mmmm).

While the selection is not huge it definitely rotates a lot and is almost always full. And you can almost guarantee to see one or more new beers hit the shelf every week. It's really great that a place like this is right up the street while away at college. If you're in Potsdam (or nearby) come in and buy some beers, you won't be disappointed with the variety that is available. There prices are also better then the other beer store in Potsdam.

They just about doubled there selection. Lots of new stuff available St Bernardus, Chimay, more ST. very awesome. Stuff's almost always fresh too!

They now offer growlers here at ridiculously good prices.
