I taste all beers that I review at a "cool" room temperature which I find brings out the flavor and character of the beer more than a chilled or cold bottle. Thus, this review is based on the foregoing.

I found this to be one of the nicer offerings from Strand Brewing Co., at least to my taste. It is labeled "Small Batch - Unfiltered."

Appearance is a very pale "watered" yellow with only the hint of a white head. Not really all that inviting or nice to look at. However,

Nose is full of fruit esters, light banana, light, "almost bitter" (i.e., not sweet) orange. I would say that it has a Belgian nose were I to smell it blind. I call it that "canuba wax" smell which people with more knowledge than me would identify as esters, I believe. Whatever it is or whatever you call it, it is very pleasant and floral and a highlight of this beer.

Taste is a light bitter orange "witbier" with a clean light bitter orange skin flavor and hints of stone fruit and green pepper and celery. Actually pleasant and appealing and likely to pair well with many different food profiles. I find it a bit strange that the beer was released in the winter as it seems to me that this is an almost perfect spring/summer offering.

Mouthfeel is light/medium and with a light carbonation and light citric tones. I think a bit more carbonation would be helpful but still a nice drink.

Finish is lightly salty, with some white pepper, celery and green pepper tones, and is relatively long lasting.

Nice effort.

A couple steps outside the box really add a character to this wittier. Cloudy and murky, with just the right amount of sour swimming with citrus for that tangy, Summertime pop (which was welcomed even more by the fact we were enjoying this particular brew in early January) So good we had to buy a few bottles for the house!

Pale yellowish grey brew with a modest foam. Spritzy mouthfeel. Pleasant flowery nose with a hint of spice. Light but with a malty touch and a hint of sweetness.

Rather fruity flavor with the pencil shavings taste of coriander. It does taste something like orange, without the usual peel taste of Witbiers. A slight bitter aftertaste. Just a hint of celery and a mineral taste.

Quite a pleasant sipping beer and just slightly different from the usual wit. From the 500 ml bottle bought at Best Damn Beer Shop at Krisp Market in San Diego.

On tap at Strand Brewing Company in Torrance, CA.

Pours a murky golden-orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, wheat, earth, spice, and citrus aromas. Taste is much the same with grain, citrus, herb, and spice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is easy to drink, but the citrus presence is a bit subdued in my opinion.
