When I was traveling to Manhattan Beach California on business couple times a month I sought out this IPA at restaurants. I know it’s not rated very
highly overall, but it was always my favorite. Much

L: a deep red-amber-brown, medium tan head--lots of it, moderately clear, a good amount of carbonation visible rising up the beer
S: loads of hops of the piney-resinous variety. I can tell from the smell that the beer is going to have a sticky feel
T: resinous hops dominate, with some pine hops taking the secondary spot. a good deal of maltiness, and perhaps a tinge of floral hops as well
F: actually not as syrupy/sticky as I thought it was going to be. moderate bitterness. the moderate-light level of carbonation fits this beer nicely.
O: this is a very mediochre IPA. some might like it, but the specific taste doesn't really do it for me.

This beer was the reason that I recently became an IPA fan, and in fact the reason I recently joined beer advocate. I had it on draft at a bar in Beverly Hills and felt it was the greatest beer I had ever tasted at the time. An enlightening experience. However, returning to it a few times in the form of bottle poured into a pint glass, I still find it to be an immensely enjoyable experience but not a stand out as IPAs go. It has that perfect balance of hoppy bitterness with citrus fruit and a nice caramel malt backbone, and the bitterness doesn't linger too much on departure. A very well executed and balanced IPA. I personally like those flavors and hops crammed in in a bit more concentrated form.
