Beer poured from bottle into a snifter shaped glass

A - Beer pours with a ultra dark, jet-black colored body; dark espresso colored head; small half finger in size; small amount of carbonation; moderate amount of lacing

S - Deep coffee scented nose; dark roasted malt; licorice; cinnamon and oatmeal; touch of brown sugar and currant to add a bit of sweetness; dark chocolate; figs and dates

T - Dark chocolate and coffee taste; dark roasted malt taste; tingling hop taste comes up well after sipping; oatmeal; dark fruit - raisin and dates

M - Full-bodied consistency; mild bitter hop taste after sipping; lingering dry dark roasted malt taste; little to no carbonation; chewy

D - Great stout; brewer did a fantastic job with flavor and full-bodied texture; really gives the beer a true full chewy stout feel and taste; very good

Uly’s pours a rich midnight black with a minimalist head that lingers lovingly. Distinct notes of roasted coffee and chocolate with a dry overall taste and full body and nice slightly lingering finish. Good mouthfeel and rich without being too heavy.

This is a great after-dinner beer that can accompany desserts, especially chocolate ones, or indulge in the Brewery’s Stout Float for dessert! It can accompany a meal as well, just beware the heavier aspect of a stout when pairing.

Available year-round on draft, in bottles and in kegs.

Fresh on tap today at the brewery.
Review from written notes, scoring to style...

Jet black body, dark mocha tinged foam that sticks at the edges and leaves a little bit of spotty lacing. Retention is pretty good, the initial finger of foam slowly settled and faded to a sticky ring around the edges.

Mellow roasty nose, dry bakers chocolate, dark roast coffee. Not harsh, mellow and aromatic. Lightly bitter, dry and roasty, supple creamy feel, fairly light bodied. Hits all the signature notes with coffee, unsweetened bitter dark chocolate, cream. Very flavorful and easy to drink, something i'd order another pint of for sure. Bottled version seemed to have more carbonation.

Average oatmeal. Lot of roasted malt flavor. Not as creamy as I would expect an oatmeal stout. Overall a pleasant beer but not on par with a Samuels Oatmeal Stout or Founders Poet. I would drink one again but it's not worth going out of your way for.

Poured from a bottle into a stella goblet. I have had this brew several times straight from the tap at their brewery downtown galena and found it very tasty. This is the first time I have seen it bottled and figured I should try it.

a- aggressive pour leads to about 2 inches of thick khaki colored head that holds for quite a while. Leaves some lacing on the glass as it receeds. Color is dark brown/black with no light getting through. Pretty good for the style. 4

s- dark roasted malts, hints of coffee and some creamy milk chocolate.

t- bitter chocolate, some roasted coffee, roasted malt, finishes again with some toasty oatmeal chocolate flavor

m- a tad over carbonated for my tastes for a stout. Lacks a bit of the creaminess that I am looking for from an oatmeal stout, even when it warms up. Nice dry stout feel though. Very drinkable.

overall, a nice drinkable oatmeal stout from Galena Brewing Company. I love it that they are local and I can get it around here, and the price is right for them to have my support ($7.50 a six-pack). I think I would prefer it on tap, but this is a great alternative if I cant make it to downtown Galena to the brewery.
