Had this on tap recently at Dram Whiskey Bar in Mountain Brook Village. Nice brown, coppery color. No discernable head whatsoever. Could have been the bartender not pouring out of the tap correctly. Notes of toffee and slightly nutty in the aroma. Taste was good, but nothing to write home about. I tasted a slight nuttiness, along with biscuity malt. Not much of a hope presence, which is understandable in this style. Slightly sweet, which may be due to the honey. Overall, I would drink this again as a good, sessionable, local brew.

12 oz. brown bottle poured with a small but renewing head, producing good retention; crystal clear, deep amber color.

S: Subtle and simple but pleasant malt aromas suggesting baked bread

T: also simple but nice, featuring bready malts with hints of caramel and nuts.

M: Medium carbonation. Too harsh and aggressive for style.

O: Tasty and not overly sweet, but marred but an inexplicably harsh feel.

On-tap at Mellow Mushroom in Mobile, AL.

Pours a clear chestnut brown color with a tan head leaving light lacing.

Smells of lightly toasted malts with sweet caramel malts in the background.

Tastes similar to how it smells, though a good deal sweeter. Sweet caramel malts up front are dried out somewhat by the addition of heavier toasted malts. Light honey comes into play midway, carrying through to a mildly sweet ending. Mouthfeel is OK, with heavy carbonation.

Overall this was a decent enough beer, although it’s not something I would seek in the future.

12oz bottle, day 10 of the 2013 Craft Beer Advent Calendar. The name of this beer itself does not exactly conjure up the prettiest of images.

This beer pours a crystal clear, medium bronzed amber hue, with one skinny finger of weakly foamy, and mostly bubbly dirty white head, which leaves a few low-lying specks of spotted lace around the glass as it quickly dissolves.

It smells of semi-sweet bready caramel malt, clover honey, a touch of stone fruit, and very mild earthy, weedy hops. The taste is more rather pithy caramel and toasted bready malt, somewhat sweet mead-like honey, a hint of oily nuttiness, a generic brown sugar sweetness, and weak earthy, leafy hops.

The carbonation is pretty understated, and hardly up for a tussle, the body medium-light in weight, and rather clammy in its attempt at smoothness. It finishes off-dry, the lingering pithy bready malt, neutered honey, and still weak as the day is long hops riding this one out.

A rather weak attempt at a drinkable version of the style - everything just seems wan and uninteresting, to the point of serious ennui. The honey is a nice idea, but barely makes a dent in the overall impression of this offering. If you see this particular honey giving you the eye, check yourself, and simply walk away.

Serving type: On-tap

Appearance: That of your standard brown ale, not a lot of head on it and has a medium brown color.

Smell: Sweet but no distinguishable aroma.

Taste: Exactly what you expect from a brown ale. A malty, not hoppy, sweet flavor.

Mouthfeel: That great taste that's almost like a better, cleaner New Castle sticks with you for a little while extra making you want another sip after it fades.

Overall: This is an above average beer. The head on it isn't so great and the smell, I wish was stronger but it tastes great and has a really good presence about it.

Trying the truck stop honey at the Pie Factory in Florance, AL. The beer poured a clear brownis h amber with no head and no lacing. The scent carries hints of honey. The taste his a nice combination of biscuit and honey. The m outhfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall this is a good session beer.

From a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Best by dating on bottle. Poured an almost tea color with an initial one-finger white head that receded into a thin cap. Thin, oily lacing was present. Nose is full of malty bread. The taste follows the nose with a sweet bready flavor and some pepper. Mouthfeel is a bit less than medium with little to no aftertaste. Overall, one of Bama's best offerings. Is one of my go-to's.
