This is a light and hoppy kind of porter. While this beer probably won't win any beer competitions where style is a main consideration, it is great for the drinker who likes even his or her dark beers a little on the hoppier side. This beer was great for my personal preferences but couldn't give it quite the numbers I would have liked to just because of the style under which Back Forty lists this beer.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a Fat Head's pint glass.

A: Pours a fairly dark brown, not quite opaque, with low visible carbonation. A thin tan half-hearted head tries to form with very poor retention.

S: Not a lot of aroma here – roasty notes, some sweetness from the malts, and a touch of chocolate.

T: Roasted malts with moderate bitter character, hints of chocolate and less coffee, and some resinous hop bitterness near the end.

M: Has a thin body for porter (more like an average brown ale), and is nearly undercarbonated. Medium alcohol presence.

O: Very, very unimpressive – not an undrinkable beer, since the roasted malt character keeps things interesting. I won't give up on the brewery after this beer. But ultimately this is a poor porter.

Another outstanding Porter....this time from an Alabama Brewery..

Was pleasantly surprised how good this Porter is and did not find it to be watery as some have mentioned. I passed on several other porters to buy this brew and was rewarded with some good brew...

I had this beer in a bottle. As far as appearance, the bottle was a bottle; nothing to say there. As for when I poured the beer into my pint, it had a pretty attractive look to it; very dark and retained a good head for a great length of time.
The smell was pretty good but nothing to write home about. Like that of a typical porter smell, it had a dark coffee smell with a subtle sweetness about it.
The taste: It was okay. Typically, when I drink darker beers I like a richer more full body taste. This beer was pretty thin.
Mouthfeel: As I said before, I like a more full bodied feel to my dark beers. This, I'd more closely associate with a black lager.
Overall: I'd drink this beer again but wouldn't send anyone out to try it.

It pours nice and dark. Not much of a head on it at all. Mild chocolate flavor, with a dark roast coffee taste that lasts on your tongue. Malty taste becomes more prevalent as it warms. Nice and light in mouthfeel, so it doesn't weigh you down or overwhelm your taste buds. A good go to Porter.

A-black with a slight red tint coming through with an almost white head that leaves a spotted lace
S-roasted malt with what seem like a brown sugar smell with a slight hop aroma
T-roasted malt comes in at first then comes a hop bit that fades to a roasted hop flavor
M-full body and low carbonation
O-a strong Alabama beer coming through, cant wait to try it again

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Thank you Shan8454 for this in trade.

Appearance: Darker brown, with a thin beige head. No lacing on the glass.

Smell: Malts, nutty, and some fruity notes.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Taste of malts, bitter, and some nutty flavor in the background.

Overall: Personally not a fan of porters, but I will give this one credit it is good. A die-hard porter fan I would imagine would enjoys this one a lot.
