On tap at the taproom in North Wales, PA!

Appears a dark black with a fine, thin, brown head. A nice, hearty, above-the-rim pour from Jack. Excellent lacing all the way down the glass. The aroma was very smokey.... I was a little nervous when I heard that it was made out of soy bacon. All beer-making logistics aside, real bacon would have been pretty cool however the synthetic bacon really did contribute a surprisingly good flavor without the greasy texture. The chocolate was also well-used. The flavors were strong enough to contribute to the mystique of the bacon chocolate beer however I could still taste the hops and barley enough to feel like I was actually drinking a beer. The mouthfeel was actually kind of dry and astringent and felt kind of strange with the bacon sensory perception, however it was quite refreshing and I would have it no other way.

Overall I think this is a tasteful, artisanal, well-crafted brew and is a real contribution to our growing beer community in the Buxmont region.

On tap at the newly opened Liberty Taproom in Reading. Poured into a 12 ounce goblet, seemingly served at the proper temperature as well.

A: Rather bleak looking, served with absolutely no head whatsoever, looking thin and watery in the glass. Dark brown to black body without any retention or lacing. Yikes. I'm not sure whether or not to fault the brewers or the tap system at the bar for this dismal looking beer...

S: Coffee beans, an extremely light hint of smoke, roasted caramel malt and some dusty cocoa powder. Overall, a pretty faint nose here and the lack of head and wide open goblet didn't really help the aromas here, either.

T: Mellow, bitter chocolate notes start things off, followed by a very light smoked malt flavor. Some coffee beans are in the linger but any flavors of the "bacon" apparently used are completely missing. The only incarnation of it I could see would be in the touch of smoke this has.

M: Quite thin for a stout, carbonation was spot-on though but not as creamy and thick as it should have been for the style.

Well, damn. The description of this beer was enough to convince me to try it but it was a bit of a letdown. The flavors and aromas are overall weak when they could have really shined to bring something different to an American Stout. A nice attempt, but seriously missed the mark.

First had: on tap at Prism

Vegetarian bacon. Loss of points right off the bat.

Dark black pour, with a wispy beige head that wasn't long for this world. Aroma of dark malts, coffee grounds. A pretty basic stout overall, dark malt roastiness, coffee, and a touch of artificial smoke that lent a bit of acridity. Not entirely bad, but really nothing great either. Thin mouthfeel for a stout, about medium in body. Not very pleasant overall, and I probably wouldn't ever reach for it again.

growler from brewery, poured into imperial pint glass.

appears black in color. thick tan colored head, that stays covering the beer to the bottom of the glass. great lacing.

aroma is a bit smoky, with some bittersweet chocolate, as expected. same flavors in the taste, but they are subtle. I don't know if I could identify the bacon if I didn't know that it was an ingredient. very good balanced and blended flavors though.

rich thick mouthfeel, lower carbonation. overall, my favorite from Prism so far.

Vegetarian bacon? What the hell is that?

Not too bad a stout. Nice thick malty character. A bit of a biting bitterness. Almost like baker's chocolate or something? If there is really bacon in this, it's minimal and seems to only grab be on the very back-end. Carbonation is aggressively biting at the tip of my tongue. Overall, a nice stout. Glad to be able to get a chance to try out this beer at the brewery.
