Had this one at the source on a past ticking trip to Asheville! Served from tap into a sampler shaker. Poured a deep reddish brown with a half finger very light tan head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, toasted malt, chocolate, subtle dark fruit, and coffee. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, coffee, metallic, toasted malt, subtle dark chocolate, and coffee. It had a light feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew. I really did like the dark chocolate and coffee aspect that was going on in this one if I am honest. However, the metallic and toasted malt aspect were a little off-putting to my palate as they were a little abrasive. But for the style besides these two aspects it was fairly solid as far as flavors and aromas go. Glad I got to try this one and would likely do so again to see if that metallic notes was still present the second time around.

This was listed as 'Robust Porter' at the brewery, I'm guessing this is the same.

A- pours black with a small creamy off-white head that reduces to nothing, leaving just a touch of lace behind

S- coffee and melted dark chocolate, roast malts, smells reminiscent of an English style porter

T- Nice robust roasted malt gives chocolate and coffee flavors, some what dry finish with more coffee on the linger

M- Medium body and carbonation, foamy mouthfeel and smooth finish

O- Nice robust chocolate and coffee flavors that almost drinks like a stout, very good

They were calling it "Brown" porter and it was quite light brown for a porter. A little off white head.

Aroma, Somewhat subdued roast, peat and lighter chocolates.

Taste, More pronounced, malty caramel and chocolate. Some earthiness and more dark chocolate in the finish. Minimal roast but still solid.

About medium bodied, but could have used some more carbonation. Drinks ok.

another new one from the lab and one of the few dark beers that they actually make. i was excited to try this one for sure.

pours out very nice with a dark brown, nearly black color and a nice sized head of tan that caps it off very nicely leaving behind only moderate lacing. mellow smoked malts, caramel, chocolate and a hint of coffee are all coming through very cleanly and concisely. well blended and even after warming it really seems to show itself off quite well. a bit light for me in the feel and this kept the flavor from really soaking in and fully exploring the palate. still moderate finish was lightly sweet and dry.

overall a nice offering here, a little more power behind it and it would have been excellent.

On-tap at Lexington Avenue Brewery, Asheville, NC

A: The beer is very dark amber in color. It poured with a quarter finger high beige colored head that died down, leaving a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of toasted malts are present in the nose.
T: The beer has light flavors of roasted malts along with notes of cola and a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very drinkable and goes down easily, but isn't as flavorful compared to other beers in the style.

On draft at the brewery.

Poured a deep brown hue with a half finger foamy white head. There was decent retention and lacing.

The smell featured roasted malts, charcoal and a touch of lactose.

The taste was dominated by the roasted malts, presenting waves of coffee and charcoal.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style with a dry finish.

Overall a tasty porter.

First had: on tap at LAB, Asheville

Pretty basic porter here. Dark brown pour with reddish tints around the edges, with a small beige head that receded to a ringlet. Aroma of dark roasty malts and not much else. Flavors of dark malts, fairly roasty, grains, and a slight honey sweetness that seemed to be present in all of LAB's brews. Body was just about medium. A pretty decent porter overall, but nothing that you haven't had before.

Arrives very dark brown with a tan head. Retention is alright, drops to a thin ring.
Smell is malty with notes of coffee, molasses and hops.
Taste is great, on style. Smoked malt, hops, coffee, molasses.
Well-balanced throughout. Finish is slightly dry but the malty coffee aftertaste lingers nicely. Definitely worth having.
