A famous brewer once said, “The true test of a Bock is that a drinker should not know the beer’s strength until he stands up.” This tasty Bock passes the test, drinker beware. Roasted malts create a reddish black color and flavorful hints of fig and raisin. A long lagering (cold storage) process provides a velvety smooth finish. A holiday favorite.

Surprisingly good American attempt at a German style that isn't filled with assinine "innovations" such as adding weird ingredients and such. Pours a nice black color in ordinary light, but is clearly a dark brown when held up to lighting. Good, tight creamy head of lace with small bubbles that remains for a long time. Nose is on the lighter side, but still gives a pleasant and appetizing bready quality. Good balance of malts, sweetness, and overall drinkability here. Nicely flavorful to savor, but can easily be enjoyed in a proper Mass stein with suitable fare. Glad to find this one.

Pours a clear brown color. One inch head of an off-tan color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of strong caramel malt, alcohol, sweet malt, hint of raisin, hint of ester, yeast, and a hint of citrus hops. Fits the style of a Doppelbock. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. There is also a slight dryness and a hint of metallic notes. Tastes of strong caramel malt, alcohol, sweet malt, slight wheat, yeast, hint of roasted malt, and a hint of citrus hops. Overall, good appearance and aroma, but metallic notes are troubling and body lacks complexity and blend of aroma.

Poured from 12oz bottle into Pilsener Glass. No date.
L: Deep mahogany. Ruch ruby hues shine through when held up to the light. Half finger beige head has minimal retention.
S: Faint aroma, some malt and some molasses like notes.
T: Good malt presence, less molasses and more charred bread like body.
F: Full, creamy, crisp.
O: Not a bad doppelbock but I have had far better.

12oz bottle. Poured out a clear, reddish amber color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It smelled of caramel, toffee and floral notes. Roasted malt taste with toffee and caramel. A subtle bitter bite.
