I stopped into the King's Head based on the BA listing while in town on business. It happened to be on St Patrick's day but fortunately we got in early enough.
It's got an Irish pub feel with average atmosphere. The downstairs area has a small bar, tables and lots of space. The upstairs area has a larger bar and a slightly better atmosphere. The decor is mostly beer paraphernalia but they also have a nice collection of soccer scarves (including one upstairs from my beloved Arsenal)
The beer selection is the big attraction with over 20 on tap including quite a few locals from Half Pints and Fort Garry. The beer seemed fresh and was very drinkable.
I thought the service was average and at times well below. The bartenders occasionally seemed more interested in doing other things than serving beers. We didn't eat because it got too busy but the food looked very good.
The King's Head is a good place for a local beer and a bite to eat. I certainly plan to go back next time I'm in town.

I am not going to rate this in relation to other Winnipeg pubs since this is the only one I was at. Went here before a Jets game.
It is a darkly lit traditional English-style soccer themed sports pub. There is aout 31 taps, mostly macros but they have 4 half pints and 1 or 2 other "craft" offerings. They have a lot of stuff like Rickards or Alexander Keiths variations or EPLs. Not anything super, but the Half Pints stuff is pretty good and worth it alone.
There were two bartenders, 1 was the friendly proprietor. Even on a busy pre-jets game night he still did the best he could. The other one was this chick and i swear she got only 2 ppl drinks while i was there, i dk if she was the barback just standing there or what, but it was impossible to flag her over.
Didn't have the food.
Overall a solid place.

I found this place on the interweb and it seemed like "the" beer bar to hit in Winnipeg. Having it's solid reputation firmly confirmed by the folks at Half-Pints Brewery we made this our lunch stop after visiting the aforementioned brewery.
Located on a busy downtown street the location has a nice, busy feel. Outdoor sidewalk seating was available during this very warm July weekday afternoon. Looking to escape the heat a bit we decided to sit inside, glad we did. Reason being, the bartender took WONDERFUL care of us and was most interested in our trip to Winnipeg "just" to come to check out Half-Pints Brewery.
The beer selection was rock solid with plenty of bottle choices with plenty of Canadian micro and macro offerings available....but we were there for draft. Oh, fine, they have 27 taps and most of them are craft/pseudo-craft with four choices being from Half-Pints! In addition to this they offer draft in half-pint sizes.
A large, dark, open bar area melds nicely with a pleasant dining area. The place has an old, comfy, familiar feel. Kinda like you are going into your buddies basement bar to simply chill out with friends.
The food was very solid and most interesting. The menu offered an eclectic mix of standard English pub fare such as bangers and mash, Scotch eggs and Ploughman's platter and the most interesting addition of Indian fare. We went with an all appetizer lunch consisting of Scotch eggs, Curry Chips, Samosas, Pakora and vegetable Spring Rolls. All in all the food was VERY tasty and filling....plus inexpensive!
Overall our experience at The King's Head Pub was most pleasurable. Tasty food, solid beers and swift and friendly service....really what more could you want? A quality stop in Winnipeg that we will certainly visit again when our travels find us in The Peg!

The King's Head Pub appears to be ground zero for the fledgling Manitoba craft beer movement. They have roughly 30 taps, around 8 of which are local (Half Pints, Fort Garry, and Farmery), another five or so of which are crafts from elsewhere in Canada (Big Rock, Granville Island), rounded out mostly by imports (Guiness and such), and Canadian big beer craft pretenders (Rickards, Alexander Keiths). Very much an authentic British Pub feel to the place (dark wood, dart boards, English soccer on the TV's) and the service was very friendly and knowledgable about the local craft scene. Great outdoor street patio seating is available seasonally (70 degrees was a most welcome respite from the Texas summer heat I'm used to in June). I did not try the food but have heard good things, especially for their Indian offerings. Have also heard it gets very crowded on weekend evenings but it was just right (between overwhelming and dead) on a Friday afternoon when I visited. Not to be missed if you're in Winnipeg.

If this were a Winnipeg only rating it would near 5's across the board. It is the only place in town that carries all 4 Half Pints offerings near as I can tell, but the remainder of their tap lineup is sadly lacking, essentially being BMC, Fort Garry and the macro imports (Kilkenny, Carlsberg et al). Locals are $5.25 and imports $6.50 (as of May 2010)
A fun place to have a pint and watch a game. Pool and darts are options for the 'athletic' drinkers while live music and sometimes standup comedy enlivens the joint.
The bar staff try to get to you as quick as they can, even though it can get busy. Table service is sparse, but it is what I am used to.
Good British pub grub, with everything from scottish eggs to vindaloo and everything in between (including some 'normal' fare like Nachos and wings)...

Awesome place to grab a beer! at 6.50 per pint for an import i guess its kinda pricey but its an awesome place to grab a few drinks. bar service is decent but you will have to wait in line on a friday or saturday night guaranteed. Table service is poor ( you usually will have to arrive around 8 or 9 to find a table or else youre gonna be standing around most of the time. couches upstairs are awesome! this bar is stacked and they have probably about 30 beers on tap or so and they know that a proper guinness is not poured in one pull! Cheers!
