A newer establishment worth noting in Calgary. Taking the place of the former Red Door Bistro, it is owned by the same folks, and is affiliated with the Amsterdam Rhino. Definitely appreciate the thought behind the menu, and set up; locally grown produce, naturally raised "beasts", organic where possible, from scratch condiments, rotating menus, and of course a focus on regional beer.
The menu is a pork lovers dream, with the bucket of bacon and maple syrup taking the cake. Lots to chose from, and I like the idea of the make your own charcuterie plates. The food we had was fresh, well made, tasty and well presented. But I would say their prices are definitely reaching, notably the salads are in rip off territory.
Not knowing much about the house beer, and not being able to find them listed here or in RB, I'm not sure if they are contract brewed (Brew Brothers?) or if they are their own recipes brewed on site (the kettles are right there at the front door). Lots of beer to choose from:
10 taps - with only one being a macro
18 bottles - with notables from DDC, Tree, Unibroue, Alley Kat, Rogue & St Ambroise.
Had a few of the house beer, and they were middling with the Tree Hophead tasting of a much needed clean of the tap line.
Respectable beer list for sure, and much needed in Calgary. A worthwhile place to stop in for some food to share or the great sandwiches.
I'll re-review when I get a chance to go again, as the service and the tapline was really the only weak points. I'm hoping it was just an off night, and both will be resolved. Other than that, it gets my recommendation.
