The atmosphere is pretty standard pub albiet with some German posters here and there. I was expecting a beer hall with oompa music and beer wenches. Bummer.

There are only 6 beers on tap but what they have is traditional German. 13 bottles or local micros or import standards (i.e. Duvel, Guiness, etc) rounded out the selection. I had a Gaffel kolsch and a Kostritzer schwarzbier -- both were fresh and served in appropriate glassware.

Food was the real standout here. We had a large group so I got to try much of the menu and everything besides the bread dumplings was exceptional.

The service was good and bad. We had a self-important ponytailed waiter who was knowledgeable and efficient but also a pretentious tool bag. I wish we had gotten a different server because we left early because of the one we had.

It's expensive, but it's New York.
