Dark, rich, moderately thick pour with average light tan head, some lacing. Notes of cocoa, light roast coffee and piney hops hit the nose. Taste is like a marriage between a rich porter and a black IPA; roastiness, mild tannins, coffee beans and raisins overplayed with resinous, slightly citrusy hops. Silky mouthfeel with lingering hop bitterness; no acrid or sharp notes. Relatively smooth and very drinkable...could double as a dangerous session beer.

Mr. Brown, an "imperial" brown ale pours with a very thin head, light foam after dying down, with little lacing. Smell is of rye, chocolate, medium roasted earthy malts, and spicy hops. Taste is solid with a rye like character, chocolate and light caramel notes up front, and a spicy hop taste that is more towards the bitter side of a typical porter on the finish. Decent mouthfeel, silky but bracing at the same time. Overall a decent porter, although reminds me more of a rye porter. Not the best I have tried, but a good middle of the road style beer. The hops throw myself off, but for a hop head it is a good one.

a perfect taste!
I've been getting growlers of this for over a year now & it's never disappointing.
Lafayette may be famous for Axl Rose and Shannon Hoon but Mr.Brown is also a rock star!
L - brown (almost black) with smallish head that drops quick.
S - Malty smell with some alcohol and hops...you are not overwhelmed at all by the 7.00% ABV.
T - what hits you first & in what order? Coffee, malt, caramel, toffee, roast ,hops, earthy, sweet roasted flavor and then don't forget our Indiana water!
M - Medium mouth-feel as if with a caramel/very slight coffee like finish.
A unique american brown ale that seems to almost want to be a porter. The malt/hops mix make it perfect. I really dig this one in the winter...but anytime is nice too!
Also, going there on Wednesdays and getting a $2 off growler for this beer always puts you in a great mood...(in bottles,it also rocks!& like "mound builder",the label/artwork are very cool)...& the latest issue of "Beer Advocate" is always there on the counter to read while waiting on the growler...

Tried many times and one of the best browns.
A - Deep brown almost black color with brown head.
S - Malty smell with some alcohol and hops.
T - A complex mixture of malt, caramel, toffee, roast, and hops. The hops give a typical dark brown ale a unique twist by giving the brew a more earthy, spicy note that most browns don't have. Has lingering sweetness and some alcohol but is balanced by the roasted flavor and the hops.
M - Medium mouth-feel with nice caramel finish. Fine carbonation for brown.
Overall, the most unique and favorable american brown I've tasted. If you like brown ales you have got to try this one. The malt makes it good and the hops make it memorable. After 3 pints everything starts to become nice and warm so I really like this one in the winter.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown color with a moderate tan head on it. Nose some some roasting to it with a slight malty sweetness coming through underneath. Taste is actually a little toasty with some elements of coffee to it. Definitely has a bit to it, but is fairly inviting. Interesting...
