Wow, imagine my surprise when walking into The Washington House in little old Sellersville and seeing not only an Ephemere tap handle, but finding out that it's the Cassis!! Woo-hoo! I immediately decided to order it; no long, drawn-out decision-making this time!
Appearance was fair enough, when tapped, the head just erupted like a big fluffy volcano, spilling over the sides of the glass.. mmm, sticky hands... No, it was ok though. Over an inch of white, fluffy, airy head that settled after 5 minutes maybe, which then left over an inch of my pint glass empty.. oh well. Anyway, the colour of the beer was a pinkish, amber-red colour, and it was clear, unlike in the bottle.
Smells like - you guessed it - Black Currant!! Really fresh and pure, it actually made my mouth water, as I'm a big lover of wild berries and that sort of thing. Wow, yeah this smelled so beautifully sweet and fresh, even a bit spicy. I also picked up a bit of a wheaty smell in there too, however faint. And the taste was, again, Black Currant! Gosh, who would've known? OK, so I'm in a bit of a sarcastic mood this morning. But really, that's mostly it, there is a spiciness to it as well, though I can't put my finger on *what* spice(s).. The finish is actually a bit on the watery side, yet not even slightly bland. Don't know how that works, but it does! This is definitely not an artificially fruity, syrupy-sweet beer, this is very very fresh tasting, I thought I felt a light meadow breeze blow by even.. Perhaps..
Mouthfeel was quite fizzy, and so it was filling, yet the actual beer was more thin, a strange oxymoronic description perhaps, but that's how it goes... I'd say this beer is very very drinkable, I wish it were cheaper and in more places, so I could drink it all the time! This is not one I'd get sick of. It's just too light and refreshing and really just puts me in a Wild Berry (Black Currant) mood!!

A: Pink. A very unique color that I've never seen in a beer before. Tiny white head on the top throughout.
S: Berries! Blueberries, boysenberries, raspberries, blackberries. Smells like a berry lollipop.
T: Sweet berries on the front end, finishing out with some lemon peel and coriander. Finishes very sour.
M: Super bubbly. Champagne type bubbles.
O: A very unique beer, very fruity and unique. Will seek out again.
