Thanks to jmalex for this one.

This one pours a slightly dark straw color. The head fades quickly and leaves a collar of little bubbles.

Smells of cheap basement beer, with lots of not-barley grains and musty, boring dryness.

Tastes of light crackers and toasty breads with a light, woody hop. The cheap, grainy sourness of the other “U” series beers isn’t as prevalent in this one, which makes it stand out.

Feels a little thick for the style, but it’s still plenty drinkable.

Nothing special here at all. Tastes cheap.

Grabbed a six pack of this for the cottage at an IGA just outside Mont Tremblant. Never tried it before but didn't exactly enjoy the first five but I'll give a shot at reviewing it. Bottle doesn't say pilsner on it, just blonde.

A - Pours bright with swirly carbonation and a one finger, soapy head going away fast. Sort of a light golden colour. Head fades to a cap that is thicker than usual. No lacing at all.

S - Honey, grassy and noble hops, sweet malt, and some corny/sweet malt combo notes. I know this is supposed to be the laymen's Unibroue, but come on, this ain't what I expected.

T - Honey is strong with those grassy and noble hops being fairly subtle and the corny note again.

M - Serious carbonation with a medium body and a sweet honey/vanilla sweetness in the finish.

O/D - I know every brewery needs its staples, but I'm sure Unibroue could get by without this one. I found this beer difficult to session and could only have one or two before I felt some serious gut rot. That honey note just didn't jive with me. I would try this if you're a Unibroue fanatic, otherwise it's not worth your time.

Appearance: It has a golden/yellowish colour and is also somewhat cloudy. It has a nice white head but dies down quite fast and has no visible lacing.

Smell: The aromas give out minor hitns of hops, grains and spices.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a mild hoppy and grainy taste to it with a very little spices present. Its generaly smooth but with a bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: It's a high carbonated beer that ends with more of a bitter/dry taste.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth, light tasting, drinkable beer but doesn't have much flavours accompanied to it. Good for a summer beer.

12oz Bottle

Appearance - The beer pours a clear gold colour with a very large fizzy white head. (Aggressive pour) There is an average amount of carbonation and there really isn't any lacing at all. The head didn't last for long before it was gone completely.

Smell - pale malts, lemon, breads, grains, light cloves

Taste & Mouth - The beer has an average amount of carbonation and it feels very light on the tongue. The flavours consist of pale malts, lemon, breads/grains and a light amount of clove spice. There really isn't a whole lot of taste going on, but it allows for it to be extremely easy drinking. It finishes with a light pale malt and lemon juice aftertaste.

Drink - For sure it isn't in the same league as the other Unibroue beers, but it also isn't horrible. It has a nice light taste and is extremely drinkable. Not sure I'd seek it out again, but I'm happy I gave it a shot.

On tap at Le Petit Moulinsart in Montreal. Poured into a Unibroue pint glass. Golden in color, clear in body. Off-white, disappearing head. Thin, not sticky lacing. Aroma is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet. Fairly tasty, yet not complex. Easy to drink and quite sessionable.

Very unoffending beer. Thin, pale yellow colour. Aroma is grain with a hint on honey. Taste is very thin, malt and hop. There really isn't much to this beer, it's not very memorable or interesting. Unibroue should almost discontinue the "U" line as they just drag down the Unibroue name.

A: Pours a clear straw yellow, with a bubbly white head that dissipates relatively quickly, leaving a ring around the edge for a while that provides decent lacing.

S: Very light hops.

T: Mild sweet caramel and a very mild hop bitterness on the finish.

M: Very carbonated, light body, finishes a bit dry.

D: Easy to drink (but so is sparkling water).

Doesn't have a lot of flavor, but it's ok for a light tasting beer.

This beer pours a clear pale golden yellow colour, with a number of fingers of thick soapy white head, which leaves no lace as it recedes. The aroma is slightly skunky grassy hops, and white crackers. The taste is more light grassy hops, lemon citrus, and soft white grain. The carbonation is moderate, the body kind of creamy and well-rounded, and it finishes dry and crisp, a little skunky hops poking up at the end if you think too hard about it.

After the Rousse, I wasn't expecting much, but this is pretty decent and inoffensive. I could see having a couple of these on a warm, sunny patio.

Clear gold with a weak, brittle head. Soft lemony and grassy hop aroma with a bit of husky grain and earthy chalk. Flavour is fairly neutral I think - a little bit on the sweet side with some acidity, and a bit of a lemon presence. Back-end bitterness is low. Very clean and crisp, a little bit of body and a sharp carbonation. Not too exciting, but drinkable.

Do not be mistaken. U WAS a great pils when it came out about 12 years ago. Plus, it was served in a nice clear bottle. In fact, it was my prefered "everyday pils" for a while. At that time, you could smell a funky raisin smell, faintly "skunky" and a lightly sweet taste. A bit more hops would have made this beer better. TODAY, this beer no longer worth drinking. In fact, it bacame like other commercial beer... Too bad! Even worst, it is now served in dark bottles, like every other beer. This beer became tastless after Sleeman baught the brewery. I guess Sleeman would not want a direct competition between their own product and their newly acquired ones. Is this the reason why it declined?

12 oz bottle I got at the IGA in St. Hippolyte. Poured into a chalice, my only good beer glass here in the studio apartment I am in.

A: Poured a golden yellow, typical pilsner color. Has amazing carbonation activity that doesn't let down even after about 10 mins after the pour. Poured a big white, foamy head the receeds to a nice top cap that produces some nice, soapy lacing notes.

S: Smell is floral hops and thin malt notes. Maybe a touch of clove going on in there, but nothing too much more.

T: Taste is that of your average pilsner. Nothing too impressive, or dynamic. Floral hops are the major player here with yet again thin malt. Nothing too great.

M: Mouthfeel is a light bodied brew that has high carbonation that really gives this beer a great, refreshing quality. Very little aftertaste.

D: Good session beer. This is the macro style of Unibroue. Goes down easy and clean. Gives you what you need on a hot summer day, but still has some flavor. I'd drink it and currently am.

I found this Unibroue in Montreal, Canada. I generally think Unibroue to be the best available locally brewed Canadian beer, but the blond pilsner is not all that representative of their usually pretty full bodied, big mouthfeeled offerings. Nevertheless, the beer was respectable, just not up to Unibroue standards.

The beer was quite pale golden in color and poured a white soapy head that didn't hang out for long. The aroma was pretty typical pilsneresque: crispy, husky, grainy, slightly musty. The beer has low to mid levels of carbonation and is overall just a pretty mild beer.

The taste is slightly crisp but would benefit by being more so, grainy, with a touch of lemon and pepperish bite. The beer doesn't have a big mouthfeel, it is mildly unassuming, although it is slightly chewy and drying in the finish. I guess it is worth a try, good luck finding it though.
