Blanche de Chambly, from Unibroue, honors some Canadian captain. Good for him. A gift from Brian and Becca - thanks guys!
At the bottom of the bottle lies a generous pile of hop matter and yeast in bottom of bottle - make sure you let this one chill for a few days for settling! Some of the cloudiness of this bottle might be due to insufficient settling time after its voyage from Austin.
A: Corked and caged, and some effort is required to decork. Pours singed straw, and one of the cloudiest brews I've seen. Looking up under the cap, I can only see in about ½ inch. Atop the yellowed gold haziness sits a massive, rocky, clumpy, four-finger head from the high carbonation. Large bubbles pop, leaving voids in the foam, and just a hint of lace clings to the glass.
S: While Blanche de Chambly certainly smells like a wit, its aroma doesn't match that of any other wit I've tried. Upfront is tangy lemon and lemongrass. A Belgian spiciness - phenols and esters - stands out above the floral, not-quite-fruity notes. Cloves frolic in a field of sour, lemon grains.
T: The flavor is light, soft spice, lemon, floral, lavender, and phenolic. The balance is shifted heavily towards lemon, while orange and coriander are nowhere to be found. Again, the phenolic spiciness is stronger than expected.
M: The medium body of this wit is understated in comparison to the almost eye-wateringly high carbonation.
D: Medium. This is an easy drinker, with subtle complexity, but there are plenty of better witbiers on the shelves.
This is one of the rare occasions where I think a beer stands well on its own, but doesn't quite meet the criteria for the style. Despite being cited as an example of style from BJCP, this beer doesn't fall in line with the rest in terms of balance of flavors.

A: Golden, slightly yellow color; huge head!
S: Powerfully sweet, citrus/orange scent
T: Very light; Obvious low ABV; Extremely orange-y but the aftertaste isn't amazing
M: Soft bite which fades; nothing exceptional
Though pouring this gorgeous beverage looks incredibly promising, the taste and feel seem too light to leave an impression. The orange is almost overwhelming. The first kick is light but great, and the aftertaste is greater. It's all the steps in the middle that make this drink lackluster.

Hazy blonde color. Small head resting.
Rough spicing, coriander, orange peel, hints of sage, lemon rind, and tangy wheat.
Soft wheat, citrus peel, lemon, coriander, yeast esters, and faint green apple.
Deliciously light and easy. Carbonated moderately. Nice.
