1630th Review on BA
Bottle to City Beer Store Tulip
750ml C/C

Purchased at 2 pk of Unibroue beers from World Market in Chino Hills, CA. Had never seen this one.

App- A lighter hazy yellow with a lemon meets orange juice color. Slightly lighter on the bottom of the glass. Has a nice head on this. A big craterous 2 finger very bubbly head. Although no lace or cling to it.

Smell- A good strong belgian yeast aroma comes wofting up. Not the usual Unibroue scent I am used to. A good backing lemon and wheat nose. Not really like a triple. A bit malty with some orange zest to round it out.

Taste- Well IMO, this really was more like a belgian pale ale than a triple per se. A nice amount of spice and pepper to give off the impression of a triple but still can get a lot of the wheat from the nose.

Mouth- A lighter medium body with a slightly light/medium carbonation. A good residual wheat base with some pepper and spice to it.

Drink- It was tasty but not up to par with La Fin Du Monde.

Picked this up as a Christmas two pack in February because they were trying to clear them out. For the price I had to give it a run. Not a great looking beer, light without much of a head. Excellent smell although not real strong. Taste is similar, very good to excellent but not as much, shall I say bang as I would like, but very smooth. Extremely drinkable for the ABV which gives it bonus points overall and decent value, at least at the price I paid. Overall a strong beer that I would certainly buy again at a good price.

Golden yellow color with a small white head. Has a subtle yeasty aroma. Flavor is also very subtle. Has hints of yeast and a touch of sweetness. Doesn’t quite stand out against other top tripels, such as Unibroue’s own La Fin Du Monde, but is still decent.

Bought in a two pack with Maudite. Poured into a tulip glass. Paired midway through with sharp cheddar cheese, pepperjack cheese, and peppercorn triscuits. The best by date on the bottle is: 08-02-14

A&S: you can see boat loads of unfiltered specks floating around the bottle even before it gets to the glass. The last pour is straight up murky. Very spicy and tart in the aroma. After a few moments this very sweet syrupy agave aroma comes through and stays in the bottle but not in the glass. When in the glass it has a ton lemony citrus aromas and fruity tartness. Meanwhile in the bottle there are some grassy almost fresh rain notes I don't get in the glass. The head of this beer is extremely volatile, upon pouring it begins at 3 fingers, but surprisingly after it starts to take a dive, it retains in a 1/2 finger creamy layer for a while. No lacing on the glass. Very murky and lively (with carbonation) pale orange colored beer.

T&M: Very tart upfront but as it gets closer and closer to the bottom it increasingly gets very sweet and funky. Very minimal amount of bitterness in the finish. On the low side of ABV for the style, but very well hidden. Tons of carbonation, medium to light body.

Overall: I really liked this beer. I liked it better than it's counter part in the 2-pack Maudite. Would for sure consider buying this combo again (especially for the price) and almost entirely for this beer. I would love to do this one and La Fin back to back, they are both so different (even being the same style) and both excellent.

Serving Type - 22oz caged and corked bottle.

Appearance - Light pear/white juice yellowish white. Thick 3 inch foamy head, tons of lacing.

Smell - Loads of spices, orange, grapefruit, lemon, banana, coriander, pepper, grapes, yeasts and sugars, and slight malt backbone.

Taste - Very crisp and light, starts off with loads of banana, grapefruits, oranges and lemons. Spices are mild and add sweetness and a little tart. There Is a wheat flavor/feel to this much like a German hefeweizen. Yeasts are sweet and smooth, add a nice light flavor to balance out the bitter fruits. Malts are light and come in at the finish.

Mouthfeel - Sweet fruits, yeasts coats the tongue with bitter and sweet flavors. Palate gets more fruits, yeasts along with some malts. Aftertaste is crisp, smooth and banana and lemon heavy.

Overall - A nice easy to enjoy and full flavor triple with lower alcohol and spices. Very smooth with a nice mix of bitter and sweetness. A nice alternative to la fin du monde, id call this the little sister of that brew. Glad I got to try and if I seen in single bottle id certainly buy again.
