My first offering from Unibroue. Sampled it from a 12 oz. brown bottle in an ice cold pint glass.
A: Great pourer into glass. Decent head and a good amount of sticky lacing on the sides. Not an over-foamer like some Big Belgian-style beers.
S: Complex smells of pepper, cloves and fruit sweetness on the nose.
T: Very well balanced with a lot of depth. Plenty of dried fruity notes and semi-sweetness from the yeasts and malts. Has a rochefort-like middle of nutty cheesiness and a dry finish.
M: Full bodied but not bitter. Alcohol is well balanced and warming throughout. Fully carbonated retaining fizz throughout.
O: A very fine beer overall. This one really stands up as a true Belgian. It's the first New World produced big beer that's worthy of an Abbey/Trappist level of quality.
