Pours a translucent golden honey color with a healthy cap of luxurious white foam. The aroma is light and fruity, smelling of clove, bubblegum, and Belgian yeast. Strands of lacing adorn the glass like streams of garland.
On the flavor front, the malt character is crackery with a touch of honeyed sweetness. This is offset by spices, featuring clove, and the ample zest of the yeast. The bubblegum alluded to by the nose also manifests in the taste, while a kiss of alcoholic warmth emerges in the finish. The mouthfeel is absolutely sublime; rich, velvety, and smooth, it affords the perfect complement to the flavor profile.
I tried this years ago and, for whatever reason, I found it to be the least impressive of the Unibroue brews. Upon revisiting, I have to say, this is damn good. Not groundbreaking in any sense, but just a really good all-around golden ale with great balance and a luxurious mouthfeel. It's crisp enough to be refreshing in the summertime, but it also has enough warmth to be appropriate in colder months as well. Another winning effort from the Unibroue crew.
