Best before 10/11. Poured into a Chimay goblet.
Pours a crystal clear light sunshine yellow. A finger's worth of fizzy white head falls quickly. No lace. A little disapointing, but a torrential stream of bubbles from the bottom of the goblet refreshes the thin cap and keeps the beer visually interesting.
Aroma is light banana and fruit sweetness with a bready, yeasty spice. Complex but very complementary and unified.
Flavor starts with a light honey, fruit sweetness. Then the bread enters. Spice comes in late and stays strong in the finish, joined by a moderate bitterness. An obvious, but gentle alcoholic warmth. As in the aroma, all these disparate elements blend effortlessly together.
There's so much flavor, that it seems heavier than it is but the body remains light and dry. Carbonation can be a bit distracting, especially the first few sips of a new pour.
I've avoided Unibroue because I've been rather isolationist... but score one for Canada, this is a tasty brew.
