Best before 10-02-11 printed on back label. This gem has been stored in my 50F dark, cement floor, cinder block cellar for about a year now. CANNOT believe I haven't formally reviewed thi sbrew yet. I've enjoyed this offering from Unibrew for many years now.
Poured into my Chimay chalice - stirred yeast and all. The audibly fizzy bright white head starts loose and lumpy, then settles to a thin-edged perimeter with a convex mound in the center. The dirty orange colored brew is alive with carbonation. Fine and boisterous bubble action is making me salivate. Drooping lines and splotches of lace sporadically present.
Such a succulent and yeasty smelling ale. Tons of creme fresh notes. Mostly sweet, with just a touch of yeasty-tart tinge. A fresh bouquet of vanilla and fresh sourdough bread is prevalent. Reminds me of vanilla (batter & frosting) birthday cake. Upon smelling this for a few minutes, I do feel like it's my special day.
Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm. And Mmmm. The scent purely and accurately translates into the flavor. A hint of white pepper from the belgian yeast cloaks any discernible alcohol notes. The yeasty sourness is restrained enough to not take center stage, but does provide a perfect balance to this luscious, sweet elixir. Mmmm. Mmmm. Mmmm.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with the perfect amount of ultra fine and tongue tingling carbonation. It coats and penetrates all surfaces and crevices in the mouth, giving life to everything it touches. The finish is slightly spicy and a tad dry.
Drinkability is PERFECT. The 9% ABV is very deceiving and could prove weighty if over indulged. Good thing I'm nursing this 12 oz. bottle.
Canada does Belgium proud with their masterful rendition of a Triple. I prefer this to many Belgian offering, as a matter of fact. The softness. The sweet warmth. The marvel. World class in my book.
