On my first attempts at this brewery, I have always been let down a few times over. Then they have these horrific looking bottles and I have ignored them. But, they get great feedback from many so I picked up the 4-pack having not tried any of them.
A: Bright gold with a luxurious thick white head that I hoped would hang on some more.
S: Spices and banana yeast. I want to call it sweet but that is not quite right- it is more of a freeze dried fruit flavor with barrels of complexity. This is intense and quite the surprise. Little citrus dishwasher detergent punch.
T: That is it, that is what a well made tripel should taste like in every aspect. Banana, yeast, cookie dough, mothball like cotton candy, and some other fruits. Clovey spice and coriander are dominant. If there were someone that wanted to get into bigger beers and like the direction that Hoegaarden leads them to, get them to try this.
M: Chewy and creamy. Volumes of bubbles that add a lot to feel as does all of the spice varietals. Crisp at the end and drying on the tongue.
D: For the style, the abv, and the content, insanely drinkable. It is like chewing on a blow pop when it is done and the flavors lend so much value to each sip. Next time I see this ugly bottle, I will be picking it up. Delicous and smooth as silk.
I have quickly become a convert and eagerly look forward to trying the other two in the pack having been more than satisfied by this and Trois Pistoles. As much as I love Victory, this is everything that Golden Monkey is not.
