Split with a friend into a Duvel and a Gulden Draak Tulip. He's sitting in on this review.
A: Beautiful golden straw color. Relatively hazy, giving a nice translucence. Head consisted of medium to large bubbles leading to less than satisfactory retention. Still leaves a decent lace.
S: Fruit comes forward right away with blueberries and citrus out in front. A slight hop backdrop sets up the plethora of malt complexities. Yeast esters and alcohol at the end.
T: Lots of malts, some roasted some not. Notes of toasted bread and cloves in the front of the palate. Alcohol and yeast noticeable at the back end. Hop character is lively providing a good balance to all the malts.
M: The feel is pretty much the representative for a tripel. Just about medium with a definite level of smoothness to it, ending with a dry estery finish with a bit of heat.
D: At a high ABV and a standard bottle size that's in the bomber category means I'm done after two. I could potentially drink it all night, but it's not likely.
