Seeing this bad boy in Guenther's was a pleasant surprise, and it was on sale, so you know I'm gonna pounce all over this. Poured into a snifter.
A: Pours a yeasty, cloudy golden amber color. This one doesn't have much of a head...what's there is a .5-finger eggshell-white affair, with poor retention and good lacing (both of which improve if you let the beer warm a little). In addition, it also features faint trails of carbonation bubbles, and if you let it sit in the glass a while, some yeast sediment.
S: Banana, cloves, and bubblegum. The ale esters really take this one over. No alcohol on the nose.
T: The bubblegum flavors are the first thing that stick out to me, with the banana, cloves, and yeast blending very nicely with the wheat base. The balance between the sweetness and tartness is excellent, but the best (worst?) part is how stupidly easy it is to drink. Apart from a slight warming on the back end, I refuse to believe this is 9% ABV. Fer chrissakes, it goes down easier than some 6% beers!
M: The carbonation is high, but it's only 'high enough' to make it superbly refreshing. The sensation plays incredibly well with the buttery smoothness on the tongue. Terrifyingly easy to down.
O: Wow is all I can say. This is a beer that where you WILL need self-control so as to not down the whole bottle in 10 minutes, lest you face its alcoholic wrath. It's an amazingly refreshing and flavorful drink that will lull drinkers into a false sense of security (seriously, this is 9% ABV?) Needless to say, it lives up to the hype.
