Seeing this bad boy in Guenther's was a pleasant surprise, and it was on sale, so you know I'm gonna pounce all over this. Poured into a snifter.

A: Pours a yeasty, cloudy golden amber color. This one doesn't have much of a head...what's there is a .5-finger eggshell-white affair, with poor retention and good lacing (both of which improve if you let the beer warm a little). In addition, it also features faint trails of carbonation bubbles, and if you let it sit in the glass a while, some yeast sediment.

S: Banana, cloves, and bubblegum. The ale esters really take this one over. No alcohol on the nose.

T: The bubblegum flavors are the first thing that stick out to me, with the banana, cloves, and yeast blending very nicely with the wheat base. The balance between the sweetness and tartness is excellent, but the best (worst?) part is how stupidly easy it is to drink. Apart from a slight warming on the back end, I refuse to believe this is 9% ABV. Fer chrissakes, it goes down easier than some 6% beers!

M: The carbonation is high, but it's only 'high enough' to make it superbly refreshing. The sensation plays incredibly well with the buttery smoothness on the tongue. Terrifyingly easy to down.

O: Wow is all I can say. This is a beer that where you WILL need self-control so as to not down the whole bottle in 10 minutes, lest you face its alcoholic wrath. It's an amazingly refreshing and flavorful drink that will lull drinkers into a false sense of security (seriously, this is 9% ABV?) Needless to say, it lives up to the hype.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best by 4/22/2013. Pours very hazy golden straw color with a nice 2 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some spotty lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of big banana, lemon, clove, pepper, bubblegum, light fruits, and light yeast spiciness. Fantastic aromas with great balance and complexity. Taste of big banana, clove, lemon, pepper, biscuit, bubblegum, some tart grain, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of lemon, banana, clove, bubblegum, and spices on the finish for a while. Flavor balance on this beer is perfection. All flavors compliment each other; none is more powerful than the other. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy mouthfeel and very smooth drinkability. Alcohol is insanely well hidden, I really didin’t notice much at all(yet this is 9%). Overall this is absolutely a world class Tripel. Perfect balance and great complexity. I need to have this more often.

Bottle into wine glass
A – 1 finger yellowish off-white head was thick with OK staying power fading to a thin layer, no lace, beer is a very hazy gold (slight amber tint) with yellow edges 4
S – Floral bouquet and yeast dominate, milder orange straw and caramel notes, good strong aroma 4.5
T – Bready malts with a bit of fruitiness, mild citrus and what I’ll call white pepper spiciness, 9% ABV well hidden 4
M – Medium body with a wet feel on the palate, quite rounded beer, carbonation is moderate to high and works well 4.5
O – A very good triple, excellent balance and very nice drinkability 4.5

12 oz bottle dated "best before" 7 Sept., 2012

Pours with a white head. Plenty of sediment in the bottle, much of which remains despite a light swirl mid-pour, but some of which comes out at the end of the pour tainting (aesthetically) the center of the white head. Head has excellent duration but leaves little lacing. Liquid is a cloudy yellow-gold.

Mainly fruity yeast and (apparent) spices in the aroma, with a touch of hops and hints of apples, bananas and pears. The taste is also quite yeasty-fruity, with hints of apples and apricots, and even some dark fruits. The high ABV is very well hidden in both the aroma (until it warms up) and the taste. Seems like there is more flavor in the finish than earlier on. Lightly tart.

M: refined, champagne-like feel, although with more body.

O: not my favorite style, but quite enjoyable nonetheless. I can easily see others giving this a very high rating. Flavorful and refreshing, but better as a slow sipper than as a session brew. Complex aroma and flavor.
