Caged & corked 750ml bottle, best before of 11-17-10, poured into conical pint glass.
A - an odd whitish pale straw colour, with big 2 finger head that sinks down to .5 thickness in about one minute. the body of the beer definitely has a slightly greenish tint to it, that is what is giving it this slightly off-putting colour. the head is rather disappointing as it fades down to nothing quite quickly; the head is white.
S - this smelled very apple-y from the moment the cork popped off. the brew's top notes are split about 50/50 between a strong granny smith apple flavour, and a blunt malty sweetness. the rest of the beer, mainly undertones, are of a slightly spicy corriander; but the note of the spice is pretty much toned out because of the intense apples. would have liked to get some more of the corriander in the nose.
T - wow, I was expecting to basically bite into an apple, but this is quite lacking in the apple flavour. the overall taste is slightly apple-y, slightly malty sweet, and a bit acidic. the initial taste is a sour malty flavour, a bit astringent, and some solid apple flavours; maybe the curacao (which is supposed to be a more bitter orange) is manifesting itself in this sourness/astringency. the coriander definitely makes itself known if the nasal passage is open, like when you take the it into your mouth (thats what she said!). otherwise it is hard to get a hold of. the finish is definitely more coriander than the initial with a continued presence from the apples and a more pronounced voice from the curacao which is clearly there. the aftertaste is pretty clean, just some lingering granny smith flavours.
MF&D - the body is well carbonated, but it is just a bit too thin for my tastes. Its a good beer, but not really my thing. maybe for the lady, but not enough apples for me to want to finish the bottles.
