750 ml corked bottle poured into a tulip glass.
A- A moderate pour left a healthy, 2+ finger, dark tan head. It bubbled away (the loudest head I've ever heard) to about a finger before eventually falling to a nice, full lace atop a dark brown-black body. At the edges I could see light carbonation rising to the top. There were nice sticky spots left all about the glass.
S- Initially I picked up a bunch of fruity aromas. On a second whiff I thought about a nice, rich dunkelweizen (some banana, clove, and rich dark bread). It's difficult to describe all of the fruits (from raisins to green apple), dark grains, and spices that are floating around. With some time, warmth allows some of the alcohol scents to come through.
T- So nice and complex. More of the fruit (dark cooked rasins and prunes) and dark bread-like tones come through in the flavor. The sweetness suggests some brown sugar countered by a bit of smoke. The high ABV is very well hidden. I'm struggling to come up with a good description. It's just plain nice.
M- Moderate carbonation, decent viscosity and a slight bite. The alcohol causes a slight warming effect in the belly (does that count as mouthfeel?) Overall, it's pretty delicate.
D- The rich flavor and higher ABV make this a nice sipper. While I can't see having more than a snifter or two in a sitting, it's quite drinkable for the the style and I'd buy it again for a special occasion.
