Bought a couple of these from Brouehaha in Gatineau. No date on the bottle, but I assume its pretty fresh late 2011 bottling.
A: Presented in a 750ml corked and caged bottle, it should be noted I only needed to twist the cage an insufficient 6 times before releasing the cork :P . Pours a very dark brown with a dense 3 finger head. dies down slowly and settles into a wispy halo around the meniscus of the beer. Leaves ample lacing.
S: Lots of dark and medium fruit. Plum, pear, fig, orange. spicy earth tones as well. brown sugar, leather. This one is gonna be a stunner in 5-6 years. Probably could go longer too.
T: Just superbly balanced and rich velvety taste. Very reminiscent of a La Trappe Quad, but not so malt forward. Honestly this is right up there with Westy 12 for the smile and taste factor.
M: Light, crisp, refreshing are words that come to mind, but this is also smooth and coats the palate well. Dry on the edges, sweet in the middle. Carbonation is perfect.
Overall: This could be the best domestically (North America) available Quad style beer, and certainly my favorite from Unibroue. Will seek out and shelf clear in the future.
