appearance:
a tricky pour, foams very easily if you dont angle it right and take your time with it.
noting that, a clean white head. cloudy. hazey yellow. very light colored yellow.
good retention. good carb. lacing is from the rim to the drink.

smell:
notes of wheat .and the abv comes thru in the nose slightly. obvious graineyness. lemony. maybe some cascade hop is hiding in there somewhere under all that grain. kinda of leaves a bit to be desired on the nose.
but not unappealing

taste:
citrus. apple.wheat. its sharp and fresh tasting, the head cuts well and leaves for a clean drink, not annoyingly foamy like it appears on the pour. goes down very easy. almost too easily.i was expecting something a bit more orangey in tones and color.. but its light and drinkable.

mouth:
citrus. again. has a sharp start and levels out alot like a wiess. nice leveled carb.
grainey after effects. like eating pita bread.

overall:
being slightly more accustomed to a darker style blonde i was intitally sort of unwhelmed with this, but the pint goes down a few inches and my mind has changed for the better, I do notice that the reviews of most unibrou offerings seem to have stellar reviews, and personally I find some of the beers they make a bit overstated, even a bit off tasting (fin du monde mainly), which is a one way ticket to heartburn for me..the blanche du chambly is amazing.. and this is a step into the same line.
not as overall impressive as the wiess.. but great reagardless. its very cloudy, but tastes light, and drinkable. worth a shot if you are feeling citrus-ey.

A: Golden with very little haze, 4 fingers of white head, nice lacing, no carbonation. A big pop but no gusher on opening.

S: Light fruity floral, apple, lager hops reminicent of a German Pilsner, Unibroue’s almost smoky yeast, fragrance like a perfume,

T: The light floral apple, lager type malts and hops, and the smoky quality all come through. Light green herbal quality.

M: Medium light and lager like, medium low carbonation, dry finish.

O: Love the theme around “ Filles du Roi” daughters of the king. A beer honouring the mothers of the French Canadians, I can dig that especially around mothers day 2014.

look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

Appearance: Poured with two fingers of head that retained well but didn't produce much lacing. The body is a cloudy blonde and orange color and boasts ample carbonation.

Smell: A mild citrus backbone that stays balanced with peppery spice and fruity yeast. Warming brings out slightly more but for the most part it's there.

Taste: Starts with a Citrus tasting malt with a note of cloves that turned to a mild earthy yeast taste with pepper. The Citrus is almost present near the end, but far more subdued.

Mouthfeel: The transitioning is very well done and the drier yeast and pepper aspects seem to get reigned it fairly well, although it's still a bit too much for me. The carbonation helps out the entire body and the citrus aftertaste is nice.

Drinkability: Well the dryness does take a bit away from it, but it's surprising easy to drink. Very light bodied with plenty of flavor and settles down exceptionally well.

Final Thoughts: Unibroue proves once again (at least in my eyes) why they are the best brewers in Canada. I wouldn't say this one knocked it out of the park, but I'd happily drink it, anytime. Thumbs up!

Purchased at the LCBO 750ml bomber for $6.85 or so. Served at 6deg C in a draught glass

A- Opened well with a lot of head. Settles down to a thin film within a couple of minutes. Cloudy

S- EXCELLENT! Just yeast on yeast with citrus and coriander galore.

T- Excellent. Almost as good as it smells. Don't get that brett yeast hit like it smells. Lots of carbonation here. Liking it a lot. Very light and similar to a wheat beer. Another combination beer from Unibroue.

M- Pretty good. Nice and carbonated with the wheaty flavor is an excellent combination.

O- Very good. Would like to try this one on tap. Seems these cross beers from Unibroue are a real hit.

Food Pairing

This nice blended beer pairs well with... General Tso's Chicken. This beer just bites it's way through the spice if the General.

Enjoy

750 ml bottle purchased from LCBO for $6.95CDN. Served fairly cold into glassware.

Appearance - very bubbly golden coloured beer with a dense white 3 finger head. The head is fluffy and is it begins it's glacial retreat leaves behind exceptional lacing around the glass. Very impressive. The beer while not opaque is not entirely clear either.

Smell - smells of spring, some floral and mildly spicy aromas with a certain freshness normally present this time of year. Some faint peppery notes and a vague appearance of the funky Belgian yeast.

Taste- similar to the nose but very light a bit floral and easy on the palate. The spicy and peppery aromas don't pull through in the flavours. Rather a mild subdued sweetness. Combined with a earthy dankness just present on the leading edge of each sip makes for an interesting balance with a lot of complexity but not overpowering or too bold in any sense.

Mouthfeel- rather high carbonation, yet this beer still maintains a lighter than average body. Moderate finish that is not terribly dry. Flavours linger in small quantities for some time after each sip.

Overall- this is definitely one of my favourites in the style and a perfect afternoon beer on a warm spring day.

750 mL corked bottle picked up at the LCBO, served slightly chilled. Unibroue is one of those breweries that has earned my trust because they seem to hit nothing but home runs, with maybe a tripel or dubbel here and there. As such, I purchased this instantly without really knowing anything about the beer - I assumed it was a Belgian pale, but a saison is even better!

This one pours a beautiful golden-blonde colour, clouded with a haze that is interrupted only by the streams of bubbles rushing to the surface. The head itself is dense and luxuriously creamy, with excellent retention. It looks great - you can't look at a glass of beer like that and not want to take a sip. The aroma is of a slightly more reserved nature, though it includes approachable notes of lemon citrus, peppery spice, yeast and some wheaty malts. Nothing to get excited about.

Unibroue has never disappointed me in the end, and this tasty beer is no exception. Light, grainy wheat malt and honey sweetness provides a sturdy backbone, with the signature yeast profile of this brewery being instantly recognizable. Lemony citrus is a nice addition, along with the more usual orange peel, apple skin and mild pepper/coriander spice. Dry finish, with spritzy, intense carbonation levels that don't quite manage to scrub the yeasty aftertaste from the palate. On the light side of medium-bodied, and unbelievably drinkable given the low abv - this 750 mL bottle is a good serving for one person, but beer this good deserves to be shared.

Final Grade: 4.1, an outstanding A- . Blonde de Chambly is everything I'd expect a saison from Unibroue to be - delicious, drinkable, and dominated by their house yeast, which produces a variety of fruity flavours that blend perfectly into this style. This one reminds me a little of the Blanche, except without said brew's trademark coriander spiciness - that brew is a nice option in the summer, but in all honesty I'd probably prefer this one during the rest of the year.

A - Nice golden color, cloudy, no head.

S - Not too much nose on this one, slightly yeasty, and somewhat fruity, apples and such.

T - Was disappointed for a second, very light with minimal come through on the smell, then it just hits, awesome flavor, spicy, fruit filled, excellent yeast flavor.

M - Fizzy, settling down to smooth deliciousness.

O - Excellent beer, was worried at the start, but this beer shows up where it matters. Will definitely drink again.
