Presentation: 11.2 oz brown, foiled pop top bottle, nice lable. Best by 4-12-15. Poured into a Chimay chalice. Thanks to my wife for picking me this up (among others) for Christmas! Served at cellar temperature.

Appearance: Slightly hazy, dark straw-gold beer with high levels of carbonation. A big, fluffy white head which fades a bit sooner than I'd hoped to a thick, sticky patchwork of foam. Still, nice looking beer.

Smell: Big, sweet and spicy yeast presence, with sugared pineapple, golden fruit, and perhaps a touch of vanilla? Maybe a hint of cotton candy? The aromas are vibrant, but constantly changing, melding together, and it's kind of hard to peg anything specific. Either way, nice.

Taste: More malt presence than I was expecting from the aromas, though it's still overshadowed by the spice character. The flavors don't show quite as much depth as the aromas, but they're still quite pleasant. Light sugar-cookie malt, a refreshing, clean bitterness (though their website says only 10.5 IBUs??), a hint of candied citrus, and maybe a touch of vanilla. Definitely more of a tripel for me (the bottle says 'triple wheat ale') than a BSPA. Ends with a hint of some spice that I can't quite peg (MAYBE cinnamon?). Restrained alcohol for 9% abv.

Mouthfeel: Doesn't feel like 9% (in a good way), with a pleasantly springy carbonation.

Overall: Overall, this is definitely a good tripel, especialy at around $10.00 for a 4-pk and considering the brewery advertises that their beers age well. I don't QUITE love it, though. The spice/yeast character is just slightly bigger than I like in my tripels, but I think my main complaint is that it doesn't end QUITE dry enough for me. That being said: for half the price of a Chimay White 4-pk or 4 bottles of Westmalle, this is the tripel I'm likely going to pick up 8 out of 10 times if I'm in the mood for the style.

Very smooth, sweet, doesn't taste very beer like. It's pretty good but its just not my type of beer. As you drink more it gets better, but I guess all alcohol's like that. Reminds me of wine so don't buy it if you're not into that sort of thing. C
