I had never seen this beer from Unibroue before and decided to buy a bomber and check it out. Glad I did! Great way to celebrate my TWO HUNDREDTH beer review on beeradvocate! Thanks to THE BROS for providing us the forum in which to review.
Appearance 4.0: Poured out a hazy, orangey-golden color. Nice 1/2" head slowly shrunk down to a thick but thin head of about 1/8" that stuck around the entire session.
Smell 4.0: Very pleasant bouquet of honey, cardamon, cloves and a very slight hint of banana.
Taste 4.0: Front is pleasantly smooth and treacley sweet. This quickly fades into a middle that is somewhat dry, but features a big hit of malty/corny sweetness which then almost immediately transcends into a finish that is dry, pleasant and focused almost entirely on the spiciness of Belgian yeast. Aftertaste is long and hits you with a very pleasant alcohol/benzine taste mixed with a slight yeastiness.
Mouthfeel 4.0: Smooth, dry and balanced. Certainly enhances the taste of the beer.
Overall 4.0: Another triumph from the screwtop kings at Unibroue. Light, dry and very well measured, this beer would be fantastic with food and would make a lovely session beer. However, even though it feel like a light beer, it is a mighty 9% ABV. Be aware! Let someone else drive the hovercraft if downing more than one of these.
