The bottle I am reviewing says "best before
3-28-10" and it's 5-5-12, but I think this beer should get better with age. We'll see.
A-Pours a hazy deep golden color with an orange tint to it. Has a small head even when poured vigerously into my Duvel glass, and very poor retention and no lacing to note, the head just goes away quickly and turns into a thin collar around the rim of the glass. I think this aspect of the beer will be the lowest score I give.
S-The aroma is on point with pungent notes of sour green apples and raisins. No oxidation (which is a great thing given the age of this beer.)Some very mild earthy hops of the noble type I'm assuming. Sweet and sour cherries come come into play as well. Also I pick up on what reminds me of a field of green hey getting ready for the pickin'.
T-As for the taste, up front it's slightly sourand sweet green apples and grapes along with very mild earthy/noble hops. I'm suprized about how much of the hops I'm still picking up on given the age of this beer. Very mild oxidation in the flavor as well, which is to be expected. Some bready malty notes, and mild hot/warming alcohol on the finish. Not picking up on the cherries I found in the aroma.
M- My first comment on the mouthfeel is that it needs to be more carbonated. I don't know how the carbonation could be affected by the age of this beer, but it needs more bubbles for sure. It has a medium to full body with a slightly sweet yet dry finish. It is creamy swishing it around in my mouth, with a tad bit of oxidation on the finish.
O-Overall, I enjoyed this beer very much. I'd like to try a fresh bottle and see how different it is, and how much age has really effected this beer. Cheers everyone!
