Well-deserving of the high praise that follows. Literally a “gift of god,” it warms this atheist’s heart.

STYLE: Belgian Strong Pale Ale

ABV: 9%

LOOK: Cantaloupe orange and dark honey. Hazy copper, murky. There are clouds inside these colors.

NOSE: Belgian yeast strain, Indian spices, orange peel.

MOUTH: Toffee, seasoned butter, fresh-cut green apple, white pepper. Unsalted almonds set the stage for a chewy tap dance, belied by the thin head and thinner lacing. It’s pretty much impossible to hold that against this remarkably complex and balanced brew.

750ml bottle poured into a tulip glass.

Yellow/gold and very hazy. 2 finger white head with moderate retention. Plenty of carbonation bubbles exploding to the surface. Moderate lacing.

Smells of malt, vanilla and honey.

Taste is creamy and fruity, but not over the top. Hints of nut and apricot, with that specific Unibroue yeast flavor. Easy to drink, alcohol hidden quite well for a high ABV.

Well carbonated makes this a joy on the tongue. Finishes just a bit dry, but hardly noticeable.

This is a great take on a Belgian Strong Pale Ale. Easy to drink, great flavor, high ABV, another great beer from Unibroue. The only real negative here would be the lack of balance. Starts and ends quite sweet and creamy. Smells the same.

Unibroue, one of my favorite beer makers. I haven't been able to try this one till today and here is my first taste:

Appearance - pours a nice orange/off yellow with a good off white head. Beautiful color that is much lighter than the usual Unibroue

Smell - A tart, pungent yet mildly sweet hits my nose, with flavors of wheat and allspice. Good smell but maybe too pungent

Taste - What a taste! At first you taste a hoppy goodness that mellow to a lemon citrus and then leaves you with a allspice after taste. Three flavors phases in one sip

Mouthfeel - A little too syrupy is my only complanit, but the right amount of carbonation

Overall - Another winner, maybe not my favorite of there beers, but it makes a great beer for summer with its citrus notes

Appearance: opaque golden color with about two fingers of head. A little bit of lacing.

Aroma: yeast cloves straw citrus fairly prevalent.

Palate: begins with almost creamy citrus taste. Soft is more of the right word. Moves right into the clove/yeast taste of these beers and finishes fairly dry and a little hoppy. Excellent all the way through, but a little thick so its difficult to guzzle.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best by 3/18/2013. Pours hazy golden amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense white head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some light spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of big grape, lemon, pear, apple, peach, floral, honey, grass, light pepper, and earth. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balance. Taste of big peach, pear, apple, lemon, grape, grass, herbal, floral, earth, pepper, and honey-like sweetness. Lingering notes of grape, pear, lemon, apple, honey, and floral on the finish for a while. Fantastic flavor balance and complexity; with no cloying sweetness at all. Medium carbonation and body; with a slickly slick and creamy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden pretty much no warming noticed at all on the finish. Overall this is an incredible Belgian strong pale! Insanely complex and balanced; and extremely smooth to drink . Outstanding!
