Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Dark reddish-brown with foamy, creamy head that leaves lots of clinging lace.

Smell: Typical Lagunitas aroma with crazy grapefruit and tropical notes which are sweet, tart and dry at the same time. Also, some roast and chocolate notes.

Taste: Borderline insane mix of grapefruit, orange, mango, chocolate, molasses and char. The finish is spicy and piney, and a little bit bitter.

Feel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. Fairly smooth and creamy. Not as dry as I would prefer.

Overall: There is no question that this is the Lagunitas version of an American Black Ale. This delivered the exact crazy mix that I expected, and I am very happy about that.

Pours a ruby tinged mahogany with 3+ fingers of rocky tan head. Great lacing & head retention

S: Roasty, not much else, some pineyness once warm

T: Roasty, a bit chocolate, pineyness, some charred notes up front. Some carob, charred grain, & a little more pineyness as this warms. Finishes roasty with carob sweetness, plus just a little bit charred bitterness & just a bit of grapefruit

MF: Medium bodied, firm carbonation & nice balance

A very nice take on this style, as expected from these guys. Wish the nose was better, but this drinks so easy for the ABV

Served in a wellington glass.

Appearance: Dark browninsh black, thin bodied with heavy bubbles on the body. Off-white head with a slight tan tint to it. Head with initial pour was maybe 1/3" off the body.

Smell:Floral scent that is plain and simple, potent and good.

Taste: I will tell you this it comes off a little sour and lightly bitter. Feels like a dose of grapefruit with notes of lemon extract. Has a floral feel to it, not bad at all.

Mouth: It improves with time, i was paring it with pretzels and at first the sour after-taste was going in and out. Then as it warmed up, super sticky. Yes I said. Medium to full bodied, pretty damn good.

Overall: If you are looking for a black double IPA feels, for about five bucks it is very hard to recommend something better. Enjoy it and appreciate...Salud!
