Very dark brown color with a head that rushed up, seized up, and leveled down with some serious thick lace. Excellent.

Crazy Cascadian nose with loads of pine and grapefruity citrus, but there's an element of tropical fruit here, too. Awesome black IPA nose. It's interesting how subtle notes of mango and pineapple contend with roasty chocolate malts. Simmered coffee trace and ripe pale malts, even though this beer looks like the second cousin of the American Stout. I'd be all for blindfolding someone, asking them to give this a whiff, and try to guess the color of the beer. In other words, it smells like a great toasty IPA.

I love that they call this NightTime. They ask you not to confuse it with DayTime, but the hop profile is very similar. Grapefruit, mango, assorted citrus, boisterous pine, tangerine, and raw hop leaf; but the added roast gives this a whole new element. I'm comparing this more to DayTime, during my enjoyment of it, then I am to other black IPAs. It has that unique Lagunitas hop flavor that I love. It's dialed down a tad, because of the roastiness of the dark malts. More of that coffee note, which seems a little bland, but I can't complain because it heightens the hoppy aspects of this beer even more.

The body is smooth enough. It's not as wet as I might want, but I can't say it's too light. The carbonation has a lot of charm with soft popping bubbles. Has the mouthfeel of a creamy root beer.

Nailed the style down. It might not be the best Black IPA I've ever had, but it might certainly be my favorite. A choice Cascadian Black Ale. Highly recommended.

Good Black IPA. I had it with Indian food and the flavor kept up with my spices!!! Pours an opaque black color with a good size light tan head (hard pour). Head retention is better than average and there are thick foamy bands of lacing on the glass,

Strong aroma o roasted malt and citrus hops ( mostly grapefruit). There is some measure of floral hops too, but the primary aroma is malty.

Taste is a nice balance between roasted malt and citrus hops. Very flavorful. Great with hot food.

Mouthfeel is crisp. Smooth malty feel up front with some nice finishing bitterness. No hint of 8% abv.

A good strong black ale with robust flavor and inviting mouthfeel.

22 oz bomber pours a root beer color with sufficient head and lacing. Nice pine and floral nose, with subdued roasted malt. Really like the clean biting taste of this one - a bit like a floor cleanser - but in a good way. I taste pine, apricot, dark fruits, and a light smokey backbone. Like the way this beer sticks to the back of the tongue as it goes down, begging for another sip. Overall a really nice black ale and at $4.99 a bomber (in North Texas) a real value.

A very nice Black IPA. Pours a very dark brown to blackish color with a medium tan head that dies down to light pools of tan foam and great lacing. Nose of grapefruit like hops, deeply roasted grains, a earthy goodness. Nice taste profile going on here, grapefruit and citrus hops up front mingling nicely with sweet roasted malts on the back and sides. Herbal like quality with a roasted grains and syrupy sweet malts dripping down a cascade of citrus hops. It is not what I expected, nor what I was really after in a dark brew. That said, it is a hop heads delight and a foray into the darker side of ale without leaving the realm of overly hopped beers. Excellent, but still---can we tame some of the hops so I can taste something other than grapefruit citrus hops?
