Dogtown Pale Ale
Lagunitas Brewing Company
The Dogtown Pale Ale is a transparent golden yellow color with hints of orange when held up to the light. A modest white head forms and quickly recedes to a small layer of bubbles with a few snowflake patterns. A healthy amount of lacing remains after the head fades. However, as the level lowers, the lacing becomes spotty.
The fragrance is balanced between malt and hops. The floral hop aroma is definitely the stronger fragrance. A slight sweet malt scent is also detectable. The smell is not particularly strong.
Floral, organic hop flavor hits the palette up front. Then the flavor turns bitter in a hurry. The bitterness does not cease and leaves little room for any malt flavor. Dryness and bitterness make the finish and stick around for the aftertaste. Dogtown has a single note flavor with limited complexity and balance.
Fairly light body with notable, but not overwhelming, carbonation. Similar to a weak handshake, it's tough to realize it's there.
The light body makes this beer an easy drink. However, the lack of balance and complexity present in the taste means I will only be having one.
