Ba Review #287

Glassware: DFH Pint Glass
Labeled ABV: 8.2%
Date/ Code: None

Got this one from Dewey Beach Liquors in Dewey Beach, DE. $12.99 for a 6-pack of 12 oz. bottles. Not a bad price.

Look: The brew was a fairly clear deep golden color with a healthy head of beige foam that created some crazy lacing throughout the duration. Carbonation level was high with an aggressive storm of bubbles rising up. I wish I could have used my Duvel glass for this one but all our beach house had to offer was a DFH tumbler pint. I’m sure this beer would have been even more brilliant in the proper glassware.

Smell: Smooth pine and some sweet hints of orange sherbet; all made for a complex aroma that was very appropriate for a quality DIPA.

Taste: Upfront was a sweet resinous pine with some tangy orange peel. Notes of grapefruit along with a citrus sourness hit in the middle. The finish was a nice bitterness with the citrus hanging on. The aftertaste was more bitterness and a slight sweetness that seemed to carry through from the initial pine resin.

This is a very nice DIPA. The lack of a date code was disappointing. But judging by the satisfying and pungent palate the brew offered, I would guess this bottle was fairly fresh.

Snagged a single of this for just 2 bucks at my local Allegheny six pack shop. Into a pint glass.

A - Very good head well over 2 inches that sticks around for a bit to great lacing. Color is a bright orange amber color clear with no sediment floaties. In other words it looks perfect.
S - Mild resinous pine quite mild really but not citrus forward like most DIPA's. No ethanol smells and has a decent smell biscuit body. Quite good.
T - Has the distinct house yeast with mild hoppy tones and some pine that covers over any indication of the above average ABV. It's good in it's own way bittering with a slight lemon peel bitter taste.
M - Medium bodied to kind of heavy possibly due to an older bottle.

Overall it has some great pine notes but it's as I expected a bigger ABV version of their flagship IPA. In a way it is more drinkable than "Hop Stoopid"
