This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

his is Couch Trippin’ Fusion #19. Where music meets craft beer. This a new spin on a beer collaboration. The brew day was full of some pretty amazing up and coming bands and a few beer writers. We brewed a “mother beer” or base beer that will be blended into various barrels. Mother beer is an amber beer week dry hopped with Nelson Savin and Mosaic hops. In true California fashion, we vaporized various hops to get a feel for which hops nuanced the beer the best. You literally inhale (a bit like you would something else!) the aromas from the bag. Trust me, you’ll know hops after this.

14oz glass on tap at Pony Bar HK in Manhattan.

Appearance: Brown with good head retention.

Smell: The dank side of Nelson Sauvin without the cheesiness, as if the Mosaic hops muscled it out. With time, intoxicatingly good earthy hop aromas.

Taste: Some dark malt tinged with a lot of earthy, weed-pungent hops. No crystal malt to speak of, just dark malts, powerful hops, then dry as a bone finish. Excellent.

Yet another delicious 1-off Lagunitas hoppy beer. Give Lagunitas flavorful hops like Centennial and they make great beer; give them dank ass hops like Nelson and Mosaic and they go world class. Tight package of biscuity malt, full flavored hops, and tingly dry finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, ample carbonation, extremely dry finish. This isn't wannabe-porter brown ale, this is dark malt but bone dry brown ale; my kind of brown ale.

Overall: At this point, if I enter a bar and they have a 1-off Lagunitas hoppy beer on tap, it goes right to the top of the must try priority list. I have flavor flashbacks of Waldo DIPA. This beer isn't *quite* on that level, but it's still a hoppy brown ale that I could drink every day of my life, happily.
