Appearance-Pours a shade of burnt orange with a foamy fizzy slightly off-white head. The head is comprised of very tiny bubbles and is leaving thick sheets of baby bubbly lace. Carbonation looks pretty vivid as its tried to keep the head inflated. Very Nice.
Smell-The hops in this beer come ripping from the glass. A combination of resinous sappy pine mixing with mild lemon bitterness and some orange citrus sweetness. I want to say there are hints of bread but that could very easily be my imagination. Basically its all hops.
Taste-This beer really is about hops and hops only. If you want a balanced DIPA look elsewhere. Bitter strikes the tongue with much more pine than citrus as compared to the nose. The finish rounds out with some sweetness that helps to clean it up. A mild bitter after taste is left behind that fades quickly. The flavors are not deep and complex but they are simple and refined. Fairly one dimensional, but sometimes that what people are looking for. No off flavors in sight.
Mouthfeel-As expected from appearance the mouth feel is full of bubbles. Not fizzy by any means but the carbonation helps to balance out the tongue lashing thats going on with the hops. It feels full in the mouth for a fairly light bodied beer which I do prefer. There is a minor mouth coating effect that feels a little oily that makes you want to take another sip.
Overall- All together Lagunitas Maximus is a very hoppy beer with a light body and tons of flavor. Its not super complex or lighting the world on fire by any means but it is reasonably priced great tasting beer that can for sure scratch away your 'itchin for hops. Also at 7.5% abv this is for sure one of the more drinkable DIPAS. An excellent choice from Lagunitas.

Poured Maximus into a Belgian Tulip.
A - Pours a clear dark golden with a two full fingers of white head.
S - Nice aroma on this IPA. I'm getting tropical paradise of pineapple, citrus, orange, maybe slight coconut.
T - Very nice flavor here as well. Getting grapefruit, pineapple, citrus, pine needles.
Mid palate getting a little light toasted malt with more bitter hops. On the aftertaste getting more citrus and hops.
M - Mouthfeel is medium leaning towards a heavy with medium carbonation.
O - I love this brew. I think Lagunitas has the IPA's down. Highly recommended! Cheers!!
