Poured this beer has a standard cider tone with no sediment. It's definately an IPA!

The smell was unremarkable to me. Nothing very strong to note, very light and crisp.

The taste is a nice rounded smooth taste. There is a pretty perfect balance here. I was expecting it to be far too hoppy or bitter, being a beer boasting how extreme it is. It turned out really tasty and easy to drink!

The mouthfeel is a pretty standard IPA mouthfeel, nothing incredibly remarkable here, but a little more dry than I would like.

The drinkability is excellent. It's so incredibly easy to gulp down without thinking. Before I had thought about it half my glass was gone! :)

This is aa nice all around brew but doesn't compare to some american double ipa's i've had previously. (776 characters)

This is what a decent DIPA should taste like. A very dark amber with a hint of orange. The smell is dominated by the citrus and pine hops. The taste again is very "hop forward" with the malt taste coming in later with the very good finish. The mouth feel is very rich and the carbonation level is perfect. My only warning is that this beer gives absolutely no warning of the rather high alcohol percentage and after a couple could sneak up on someone unsuspecting. Overall this is a great DIPA worth every penny. (518 characters)

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a big two finger ivory head with good retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of caramel and biscuit malt, tropical fruit, citrus and piney hops. Flavor follows with resinous piney hops with lemon and orange citrus, pineapple and mango, light caramel malt, lightly sweet. Finishes with long lingering citrus and piney hop bitterness, moderately resinous. Medium bodied with mild carbonation, despite the aggressive head. A nice caramel based imperial IPA, hitting all the hoped for notes: pine, citrus and good exotic fruit flavors. Hops lean towards resinous than herbal, but still very nicely balanced and the ABV is well covered. Flavorful as expected from Lagunitas. These guys know their IPAs. (772 characters)

Super spicy. Super Piney. I've come to love and expect a strong piney, hoppy presence in all their beers. This one hits hard. It's big time. A beer some breweries would put into a 4 pack and charge the same price, $9.99. Not Lags, they give ya 6 for 10 and they all pack a punch like you just dove on a hop grenade to save your comrades. Drink it. (347 characters)

12 oz bottle in a pint glass.

A- Dark orange color with abundant carbonation and a thick 1-plus f head. Lots of web lacing.

S- Bold hop aromas; pine, orange, flower and herb. Some mineral aroma holds it back.

T- More bold hops and big malts. Just a bit of sweets to go with the pine, citrus, and spice.

M- Full and hearty. The sweets on the back end balance the hops.

O- Pretty well balanced and drinkable. (413 characters)

I am an avid Lagunitas fan so I am a bit sad to mention that it took me awhile to finally try this variety. I enjoyed this beer and you should know that although it has 8.2% ABV, it drinks like a 7% ABV.

Look-It has the epitome of a copper amber color and a decent clarity. The head comes in thick yet only a finger or two deep, but quickly dissipates into a fine lacing that remains all the way down.

Smell-The smell is definitely pine, grapefruit, grassy hops, and some sea-salt mixed in there somehow. The malts are mildly sweet and show up at the end.

Taste-The taste is just like the smell, but with a stronger pine flavor and a caramel malt backbone. I also get some floral and clover notes that are very pleasant and play well with the malts and alcohol content.

Mouthfeel-The feel is zingy at first from the citrus and carbonation, but the malts produce a creamy syrup feel that isn’t overwhelming. The alcohol content is almost amplified by the perfect timing of the carbonation and citrus zest. It also leaves a pleasant resinous coating on the tongue that lingers.

Overall-It is a pleasant brew with a medium-bodied and creamy texture that is not overly sweet. I would have liked to see a little bit more variety from the hops in terms of oils and flavors, but I definitely was not disappointed. (1,318 characters)

Not a big fan of this one. I find it too heavy on the malt with a weird caramel sweetness to it. I'm not a fan of malty ipas and this one confirms that for me. Yes there is a good hop bitterness to it but the sweetness sort of throws it off for me. (251 characters)

Look: Maximus had an average appearance with light foam.
Smell: Maximus had an aroma of molasses and malt.
Taste: Maximus had a light bitter burnt taste of both hops and wheat.
Feel: Maximus had low carbonation.
Overall: Maximus had a good amount of alcohol content. People who seek a low-carbonation/high-alcohol type beer will enjoy Maximus.
I purchased a bottle of Maximus for $3.99 USD in Glendale, CA/USA. (411 characters)

LOOK: Clear Orange Amber Color with 1/2 Inch Beige Head that Lingers Through Out, Excellent Lacing that Coats the Glass.

SMELL: Nice Mild Hoppy Aromas mixed with Stronger Malt and Bready Grain Scents, Burnt Carmel is also Noted.

TASTE: Strong Full-Bodied Hoppy Taste, the Higher ABV (8.2%) is Evident with each Sip and a Moderate Bitterness is noted, more so after the Swallow.

FEEL: Mild Carbonation, Moderate Pallet Dryness

OVERALL: Quality Full Bodied IPA that some could describe as "Slightly Harsh" because of the Obvious ABV%. Great Ale if you are planning on having just One or Two. (598 characters)

I have sampled this beer a few times but never had a bottle to myself until now, poured lighter pale golden with a nice tight white one finger fluffy head that stuck nicley leaving a sheet of lace behind as it settled slowly.Mmmm big pine aromas with underlying citrus with just light and I mean light caramel note underneath, piney with a apricot-like edge hop profile pretty big but not overly brash the malt is amped up a little as well in a sweeter caramel note the alcohol shows up a little more as it warms. Not bitter more of a smoother, rounder DIPA nice balance really. (574 characters)

Delicious.

Has been my firm favorite for at least a couple of years. It tastes best at 50-60 degrees, and loses it hops quickly if stored at room temperature. If you don't have a warmish fridge, buy them warm, cool them slightly in your basement, and get to them quick.

Appearance-
A mellow orange/copper, clear. Steady carbonation, not much foam, but high retention.

Smell-
Fragrant hops dominate if you drink the Maximus at about 50 degrees or higher. This smell almost disappears when fully chilled. I also get the grapefruit and pine that others mention. No malt that I can smell.

Taste-
Truly yummy. First a smooth, slightly sweet maltiness, followed by that same grapefruit and pine (spruce?) that you can smell. Grapefruit and hops pleasantly linger in the aftertaste for some time.

Mouthfeel-
Smooth, smooth, with a steady, gentle stream of carbonation.

Drinkability-
For all its complexity, I am happy to stick to this beer all evening. It is flavorful, not too heavy, cleanses your palate well, but steps back when you take another bite of food, so it goes with pretty much any dish I've had with it, especially Thai or other spicy fare. Highly recommended. (1,174 characters)

Appearance – Deep, cloudy orange in the body with a boatload of sediment. The head was big and frothing and laced the glass. This one was gorgeous.

Smell – Complex mix of hops dominated by pine and floral. This one smells bitter as all get out.

Taste – Definitely one to take note. The noticeable caramel malt balance is the only thing keeping it from the extreme Brutal Bitter category, but this one is bitter as endive.

Mouthfeel – A little bigger than medium-bodied and dry as shit.

Drinkability – After the tasting notes, I chugged half the bottle in about five minutes until the wife grabbed it out of my arms (she loves bitter beer). This one was awesome! (678 characters)

Nice brew, this one is. Pour produces a medium-golden to light copper colored, clear brew with a very thin, white, fine head.

Some lacing, but not a whole lot. (Some sediment was swirled in near the finish). Aroma is fresh and citrussy, with some mild toastiness.

Body is pleasantly above medium, heading towards fullness, and it is velvety smooth. Flavor has light malt, with a slight bready, toasty aspect to it with a touch of caramel.

More citrussy hops abound here as well, with a refreshing aftertaste sticking in the throat. (537 characters)

This beer delivers a nice, two fingers of head that stays. It has a brilliant orange copper color. The aroma is weak, and of light cascade. The taste of Maximus is very round and light. I get bright ale fruit and alcohol nicely blended into the bitterness. There is a light, resinous hop finish. A touch of spice emerges with warmth.
This is a simple, lovely IPA with no harshness, stickyness, or hefty malt. It has a nice light, grippy, mouthfeel with a fizzy lift from the carbonation and this is about as drinkable as they come. I am very impressed with balance and drinkability achieved here but for a beer claiming double IPA, it just doesn't wiegh in. Theres no oomph. There's not really double anything as far as my mouth is concerned. (744 characters)

Nice copper pour with a half-finger head that leaves an ok lace throughout. The hop aroma is apparent as well as well as some candyish sweetness. The taste is a pretty nice citrus hoppiness with a sticky malt sweetness. The hop flavor is pretty basic not a whole lot of depth and/or variation. The mouthfeel is sticky and a little slick. I really can't stand a slick on my pallet. The slickness detracts from any potential for crispness and "refreshing or quenching" attributes. Overall this is a good flavored and bodied brew with a slick mouthfeel. (550 characters)

I think it tastes like Dogfish head 90 minute IPA. Probably couldn't drink more than 1 or 2 in a sitting. (105 characters)
