On tap at Magnolia's at the Mill in Purcellville, VA. Finally get around to entering my notes from my trip to this fine place.
Right, so, upon seeing the fairly impressive tap list at this joint I was determined to drink brews I cannot get in my home state of SC. Lagunitas' Maximus was an obvious choice.
This brew is a hazy gold-orange, sporting a 2cm white head that leaves fine lacing down the glass as the beer makes its way into my kidneys. The beer is quite still in the glass.
Smelling some metallic, citrusy hops; the grapefruit is strong in this one. Very Double IPA-ish. Fresh and inviting.
This is a good example of a by the book DIPA that hits all the rights notes without going extreme towards hop-land. Bitter citrus flavor upfront, warm boozyness combined with a sweet, slightly medicinal bite and a sweet caramel malt character all work well together. The mouthfeel is smooth and full. It's clean and altogether drinkable.
A safe, but quite tasty, Double IPA. Gives Stone's Ruination a run for it's money. Worth a shot, and was delicious with my goat cheese and spinach salad.

Poured Maximus into a Belgian Tulip.
A - Pours a clear dark golden with a two full fingers of white head.
S - Nice aroma on this IPA. I'm getting tropical paradise of pineapple, citrus, orange, maybe slight coconut.
T - Very nice flavor here as well. Getting grapefruit, pineapple, citrus, pine needles.
Mid palate getting a little light toasted malt with more bitter hops. On the aftertaste getting more citrus and hops.
M - Mouthfeel is medium leaning towards a heavy with medium carbonation.
O - I love this brew. I think Lagunitas has the IPA's down. Highly recommended! Cheers!!

Aroma of stale peaches, something sour, can't quite place it. Sugars as well. Pours a thin gold, little head, no lacing. Taste is medium sweet and bready, a bit of a hot alcohol aftertaste; not unpleasant, not great. Lagunitas makes a lot of great beers and this just isn't one of them -- thin, sweet, oddly sour.
