12oz stub bottle; dated 12/02/11 (used my special Julian dating decoder ring). Label banter says something about a nipple piercing. I'm sold. Got two, in fact, one for me and one for the girlfriend in a mix-six. Definitely peaked my interest, owing thanks to the delight that is Lagunitas Sucks.
Got 3/4" of head on the pour. The head is breaking up at the top and peeling to the sides of the glass okay. A few hues darker than orange can describe this perfectly clear brew. Got 'er in a pint glass. The lace is little and almost not worth mentioning.
Some papaya in the nose with a little peach nectar and a slight grassy hint. Tropical fruits, yes. I think I nailed it with fresh papaya. A wee bit of ethanol.
Dank! Those hops have evolved and de-evolved into something much more resinous and nectar-y. Hold up, not entirely in a good way. There's some sweet/syrupy characteristics that lean to the high fructose corn syrup side. The taste is juicy, for sure, maybe a little overripe. They really tried to beef up the malts, and in turn, I'm getting a sweet caramel backbone with some toast. Balance isn't always something I look for in an Imperial IPA, so... this much malt takes away from the tropical fruitiness. Caramel doesn't go too well with the hop flavors, and this one's a bit too sweet to boot. Maybe if they'd have stuck to more pale malts in the bill, this one would shine.
Feels a bit thick and definitely too sweet. The carbonation is on the lower end of medium, but that's entirely to blame.
I'd have this one again, in fact, I wonder if I'm not having this fresh enough. This came out alongside the Sucks... get the Sucks.
