A: Pours copper with a white head.

S: Strawberries (which strike me as odd), citrus and dark fruit in the nose.

T: Berries, citrus fruits and floral notes along with a fair amount of malt and pine.

M: Medium-full bodied, but too carbonated for my taste.

O: Probably my second favorite beer of theirs after Little Sumpin Sumpin, though Sucks is pretty good as well. Definitely worth try if you like DIPAS.

Poured into a standard pint glass with very little head and not much lacing. Very hop forward nose consisting of grapefruit and some tropical notes. The flavor was more of the same with tropical fruits, grapefruit, and some booze standing out. The mouthfeel was syrupy with a hint of carbonation. Overall, this is a good double IPA that was fill in for Sucks.

A : A nice orange amber color with a nice two finger frothy head at the top, leaves a nice sticky lacing around the glass as you drink this one.

S: A nice caramel nose, with hints of grapefruit and brown sugar, nice roasty malts as well.

T: Lots of candy flavors here, caramel is very present, a good mixture of malts and hops, and good amount of grapefruit flavors.

M: Medium bodied, a fair amount of carbonation and slight stickyness as well.

O: This was a unique DIPA, very sweet from what I am normaly used to but not bad at all, nice refreshing taste and well balanced.

On tap at Kickbacks in Jax. Poured into a snifter. Fluffy, off-white head, high retention on a clear copper body. Soapy, sticky lacing. Aroma is dominated by grassy, fresh hoppiness, with some grapefruit and tangerine. Taste is bitter with some malt balance. Not totally over the top bitterness, but quite satisfying and well put together. No alcohol tasted and certainly delicious.

On Tap at The Side Car Bar in Philly. 10oz Tulip.

Maximus comes in the glass looking a bright golden color with some faint yellow mixed in. Very pale looking with a small little cap of white foam that does not stick. Not much life to the bubbles. Smell is all citrus, with some bubblegum and some underlining biscuit malt scent spewing outward. A lot of grapefruit with mango. Taste is pretty subdued. The malt takes forth and takes over what looks to be a nice citrus bomb. I get it, but not the citrus burst i crave. Some mango, orange and grapefruit mixed in with malt and a hit of alcohol toward the end of the glass. Feel is medium and not as syrupy as some other DIPA's that I have had. A small amount of alcohol is in the aftertaste with biscuit flavor, A nice attempt at this beer, but not on the top tier list. I will find a fresh ass bottle and review that when I get a chance to compare.

Served on tap in a pint glass

A - Clear amber with one finger white head minimal lacing

S - Robust blend of hoppy notes, citrus and pine. Wheat and caramel malt as well.

T - Full palate bitterness with nice hoppy tones, especially pine throughout. Decent balance.

M - Medium body, light carbonation

O - Pretty good, not my favorite Double IPA, and didn't really taste like an Imperial.

On tap at Lagunitas

A: Intense white head. Really nice cloudy golden orange color.

S: Piney, floral, super sweet caramely citrusy note.

T: Whoa. Hoppy, grapefruity, but finshes smoothly with a nice caramel malt flavor. Alcohol is well hidden which is good but can be dangerous.

M: Thick and syrupy but not cloyingly so. Very enjoyable.

O: Excellent DIPA. Considerably less expensive than PTE so I purchase this one a bit more often. Regardless of price however; I would still pick this one up.

A: Copper color with amber hints. Clear.
S: Standard citrusy cascade hops, but restrained and balanced.

M: Syrupy texture from hops which detracts from drinkability.
O: Balanced IPA that is pleasant on tap, though might seem a tad too syrupy.

On tap at Ashley's in Ann Arbor. A pint glass, golden color with small amount of tan head. Smell is slight hops and grapefruit. Taste is pretty typical of an IPA: hops, grapefruit, pine. I thought this beer had some "earthiness" about it.. maybe a mossy/grassy flavor mixed in with the more typical IPA flavors.

Pretty drinkable, I didn't really think of it as a DIPA when drinking it. Alcohol is not that noticeable and doesn't have many of the heavier characteristics I associate with other DIPAs.

Sample at Barley's Smokehouse. This beer is a hazy light amber color with a thin light beige head that diminishes quickly. Spotty lacing. The aroma is hoppy with some caramel malt. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with hops and spice flavors, along with some sweet malt and grapefruit underneath. The finish is fruity and hoppy with a lightly bitter aftertaste. Does not pack as much punch as I would expect in a IIPA. Slightly above average overall.

Re-review but from the tap.

Aroma: Fresh citrus, lemon zest, and orange notes up front. Clean fermentation chracter. Just a hint of carmel sweetness. A little alcohol warmth as the beer warms.

Appearance: Slightly cloudy amber colored pour with a sticky white medium head. Head retention is good.

Flavor: Fresh citrus hop character up front. Lots of lemon zest, grapefruit notes, a little pine resin, and a nice carmelly malt backbone. Balance it toward the hop bitterness. Finish is bitter and dry.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, medium carbonation, just a touch oily, and a little touch of alcohol heat.

Overall impression: This is not the beer I had 4 years ago. That was from a bomber and I don't think it was fresh. This beer is a little light for an Imperial IPA but it's a nice beer from Lagunitas.

I had this on tap at Andy's in a pint glass. Pours a amber yellow color with a thick white head.

Aromas are of pleasant hops, citrousy and a little bitter with hints of malts.

This one is very nicely hopped. There is some some sweetness that is trying to balance it out but the hop flavors make a strong presence but not too over bearing.

It almost had a creamy texture while drinking the entire pint that also left wonderful lacing rings up and down the glass.

I could have certainly drank my share of this one. Very tastey and smooth, definitely worth a try.

Pours out orangey with a nice citrus smell that hits your sinuses like a freight train. The hops hit you from the first sip and don't stop til the very last drop. A nice malt profile on this one as well though, the balance is very solid. Another winner from Lagunitas.

Had this on tap, served in a snifter. Poured a clear orange, with a white head and lots of lacing. Really beautiful.

Aromas of mostly sweet, citrusy hops.

Taste has a sweet, bready center, complemented by more citrusy, pine hops.

Good carbonation - a bit of effervescence plus a good thickness that goes with the sweet side.

Excellent beer, one of the best I've had recently. Will definitely return to it.

Appearance- The body of this beer is a transparent orange with a golden hue. This beer has serious head every time I have seen and great lacing.

Smell- It has a very bitter aroma for the most part but there are bread like malt tones as well.

Taste- To me I thought it was a citric sour beer there was not much for malt. It has a good bitterness to it with a biscuity aftertaste.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied.

Drinkability- I thought it wasn't bad but I am not sure in what category of me liking it that I would put it in.

A very interesting prelude; it begins with a thick head of 1 inch accompanied by heavy, frothy lacing surrounding a body of copper clarity.

The nose, however, did not overwhelm me, possessing a sweet floral aroma. Maximus does have a well balance of hops, but not a powerful presence. Still, I thought it was mild for the style; in fact, it impressed me as more of a session beer than a heavy hitting Imperial IPA.

Smooth, mellow but no bitterness.

While not exceptional, Lagunitas Maximus is a worthy entry from the Left Coast and one worth quaffing where available.

A: Nice golden hue with hints of red showing thru. It pours with a big rocky white head that dies down to a half finger. There is nice sheet lace noted.

S: It has a big pine aroma. There are some undertones of malt and grapefruit, but pine is front and center here.

T: Bold hop character which comes at you mostly pine. Some C hops are used as there is some grapefruit as well. There is a nice malt backbone to balance things out a bit and make this one extra enjoyable.

M: Medium in body, smooth with good carbonation.

D: Another great and reasonable priced Lagunitas brew.

A: A dark and golden beer with copious amounts of head, not much lacing. A nice color when lit indirectly.

S: Wafts of hops and floral scents drift from the cup. That always gets me excited.

T: A smash of hops that completely floods your mouth that blends slowly to a malt crisp carbonation finish. There is a reason this beer is called Maximus.

On a side note, the taste of this beer changes when slightly warmer... the malts seem to be more apparent. Maybe just my imagination?

M: A heavier IPA thats not meant for a post sweat-session but more for the sitting down with the boys at the pub. Heavy on the senses.

A great and slightly heavy IPA experience. The more I drink Imperial IPA's the more in love I fall with them. This one comes highly recommended. I scored on the slightly conservative side, even though my taste told me otherwise, simply because I havent tried too many I-IPA's. I definitely recommend.

Served on tap, poured a murky gold with a thick white head. I think the keg got shaken up quite a bit. None the less, it made for an ugly DIPA. It smelled bright and hoppy, a bunch of pineapple citrus aroma spilling out. It drinks very smooth and balanced for a DIPA. It's one of the more subtle examples of the style, and probably borders on IPA territory. I could have 3 or so glasses in an evening without getting tired of this beer.

Enjoyed this beer on Tap at the Clark Ale House in Syracuse, NY

Was served with a nice one finger thick head which was slightly creamy in texture.

This wonderful IPA was Copper in color and a bit more clear than I had expected.
As I enjoyed the beer it left behind a very good amount of lacing.

You were hit with a wonderful Fresh hop aroma. I believe I could detect my favorite hop. (Cascade)

Has a Big mouth feel but is also very nicely balanced.
A bit sticky and you can almost chew this beer.
Excellent flavor.
Chewy cascade citrus flavor which is balanced perfectly by toasty malt.

Grapefruit.
Little fresh pine.

Long last hop finish.

Very smooth for a big beer.
Excellent brew.

Be sure not to miss this one.

Had this on tap at the New World brewery in Tampa (ybor). Poured into a Chimay goblet.

A- Transparent golden amber... A nice white, creamy head with random, oversized bubbles. Glorious lacing throughout the experience.

S- Cirtusy, sweet hops. This one definitely smelled potent in terms of alcohol and flavor.

T- Bittersweet fruits and hops, a bit of alcohol, and a bitter finish. Nice.

M-Medium body, medium carbonation. Slightly oily over the tongue.

D- I wouldn't have more than one, but the single serving goes down with no problem. The alcohol isn't too bad either, compared to others of the style.

I had this in 22oz. bottle before but don't remember it standing out. I had it on tap recently and wanted to write down my impression.

Poured copper with off white head

Aroma was faint, smelled a little like metal. Floral hops began to come out slightly but not strong like most IPAS
Taste the alcohol, flavor didn't match up. You can taste some hops with spices. Flavor tasted watered down.

Entry level IPA in my opinion. I hope this was from a bad tap because I like most lagunitas beers.

On tap at the Birreria Paradiso in Georgetown, DC. Served in a pint glass.

Very big, foamy, two finger head on this beer. Reddish, orangish, amberish in color.

It has a whopping citrus nose. The smell attacks you it's to full of flavors. It was very hard to discern any other smells over the citrus.

Extreme bitterness to the T. Very sharp hop profile with citrus notes running rampant. But it was all balanced with a nice maltiness that was just led right back to bitterness. Excellent balance. Nice full body and a nice smoothness.

I am a hop head but this beer is definitely not a session brew. Very drinkable with a late lunch paired with the Atomica Pizza from Pizzeria Paradiso.
