12oz bottle into a tulip

Poured clear light copper with a single finger head. Smell is hoppy needless to say, fairly malty, some pineapple, some pine. Taste is well balanced, not bitter at all,I get very decent amount of lemon and earthy pine, some bubblegum. Texture is great. Overall it's a great IPA but I like them to have a little more citrus and pine. On the verge if being imperial but I think it falls just short, almost tastes like an imperial American pale ale. Another great offering by the great people at lagunitas

Really like this beer... Heck I like most IPAs, however this one was on my list to try, and at first taste has become one of my top five IPAs, maybe top three. I am not the most educated lingo guy, and for the most part and I look for the all important taste aspect of the brew. i could care less about lacing and head as it does nothing for me.

As for most IPAs, Maximus has the strong hint of floral/citrus/pine smell and flavor. it pours a bronze color. the ABV is at the right level for me, a two to three beer drinker per sitting. If you like IPAs, you will find it here. This is a very tasty beer from beginning to end, you will not be disappointed.

Bottled September 21st, if I'm reading this Julian bottling date correctly... the beer's about 3.5 months old.

Appearance: Really nice bronze color... there's a two finger head that leaves just a filmy top. There's a slight haze to the beer -- lacing's very nice.

Smell: Not your average IPA ... smells like a Two Hearted or Racer 5 -- two of my favorite IPAs ever. Very fruity, bright, hoppy. Fantastic.

Taste: One of the best I've had... gotta say I'm surprised the rating for this beer isn't higher than it is. I get that tea flavor throughout each sip -- which I get from any Lagunitas IPA -- as well as some bright hops and alcohol burn. The finish has quite a bit of bitterness, but then there's a nice balancing act from the malts.

A BIG beer that's surely not for wimps (Surely that's why this is a DIPA), and I think it's absolutely fantastic all around. If there's really any downside, it's simply that I doubt I'd drink more than one in a session just because it really is so "big." Not just that, but it costs about 30 cents more per bottle... not sure I'd pay that extra too often when I could get Two Hearted for a bit less.

Pours a deep copper color with lots of floaters from an aggressive pour, floaters never hurt anyone only makes the beer better. Nice fluffy two finger beige head falls slow with tons of sticky lace. Nice looking brew.

Aroma is great floral and nice juicy fruit notes with hints of pine. All on a bready malt base that is hiding underneath all the hops.

Taste is nice bready malt with descent hop favors floral lighter fruits in the flavor then the nose. Some pine hints in the finish along with some alcohol notes. Figured it would be a little bit better from the nose but still good.

Mouthfeel is big medium with nice medium carbonation.

Overall looked and smelled great tastes good but not great, would make my best I2PA's but pretty close. Defiantly worth having.
