Bottle poured into a tulip; no dating on the bottle or label, BUT after draining the bottle, I found a code stamped in black on the neck of the bottle, 22808518, and have no freaking idea what this means. Deep, amber colored body with a touch of red hue. Darker than I would have expected. One finger tan head that dissipates quickly, but leaves a bit of a cap and a smattering of lacing.

The pine aroma just jumps right out up front. Minor notes of citrus and some sweet bready malt follows.

The flavor surprised me after the aroma. The malt is more forward than I would have expected and the piney hop flavor takes a back seat, but is still present.

Good IIPA, but not great.

Nice copper color with a good heading. Not crazy lacing but still some good retention. Decent aroma of pine and citrus hops, a nice toffee and caramel sweetness in the background. The taste however is a bit muted. More of a sappy malt backbone with a decent sting of bitter hops on the tongue but not what the name suggests. Medium bodied kind of chewy, decent carbonation. The ABV stated at 8.2% which is much bigger than the 7.5% which is stated here. An ok IIPA but with the amount of hoppy IPA's in the world this one doesn't stand a chance.

A - Tawney amber in color with a fingers worth of white foam which dissipates quickly to a ring around the edges leaving tiny spots of lacing.

S - nose is full of grapefruit rind, sweet orange peel, ripe fruit (banana peel?) and toasty, caramel malt to hold it all together.

T - toasty malts give a bit of toffee and just a bit of caramel sweetness. as the beer warms on the tongue smooth and even hop bitterness comes into play. Notes of medicinal cherry, and a slight bit of banana become apparent before the finish.

M - medium bodied. smooth, creamy malts with a light but bubbly carbonation.

O - Nice showing from lagunitas. interesting flavors for an IPA.

Poured into a Pint Glass.

Appearance-Dark bronze body with a finger or two off white head. Pretty good retention and lacing.

Smell-Pine, Caramel, and a bit of citrus.

Taste-Hops are there but are taken over by the caramel malts. Pine is the prodominant characteristics of the hops with some bitter grapefruit. Some pepper in there as well.

Mouthfeel-Medium bodied w/ medium carbonation.

Overall-Good beer to sip on, not the type of IPA I'm going after on a hot summer day. Still a nice sipping IPA especially at 8.2% would only drink 3 max. Yet another good Lagunitas offering.

Bottle from IGA in Potsdam.

A - Pours light to medium bold with decent carbonation and a one finger, creamy off white head. Good rings of lacing and good half finger retention.

S - Huge pineapple, grapefruit, orange rind and sweet rich malt blended in with a little pinesol.

T - Much stronger on the pineapple and grapefruit with some more tropical notes that are hard to pin down. The malt is sweeter and not so rich creating a honey type taste.

M - Nice carbonation with a medium to full body and a really smooth feel in the mouth. Medium bitterness that scratches a little to
let you know what's up

O/D - A fairly solid DIPA. A little sweet with the honey note, but the ripe citrus works well with it. The mouthfeel is a big bonus, making
it oh so smooth.

Lagunitas Maximum is a delicious DIPA that favours dry pine and grapefruit compared to the usual sweeter orange flavours. Very nice.

A: Orange colour and a 5 mm head that fades to decent lacing. 4

S: Malty with some piney aroma from the hops. The combination is lovely. 4.5

T: Malt and pine with some subtler citrus flavours.
Some slight sweet/sour flavours come across as grapefruit. 4.5

M: Foamy. 4.5

O: This is a very nice DIPA. I love the pine/grapefruit flavours. This is quite a dry IPA. 4

12oz bottle obtained via a Beermasons subscription. Poured into a Blue Betty Brewery tulip style pint glass.

Looks a orange golden colour with a nice haze to it. Has a slightly off-white head of foam that measured two and a half fingers and retained it's depth well. Solid lacing.

Smell is sweet, citric and fruity as well. Plenty there and there is some pineapple and mango as well as a touch of pine itself.

The hops are more restrained on the tastebuds. Decent malt presence is the first thing you notice. Little bit of the said fruits and pine at the end.

Mouthfeel is solid, coating, but not real bitter, certainly not hitting you as 72.41 IBU's should.

Overall, another decent brew from Lagunitas, but while i enjoy hoppy beers and DIPA's, this doesn't seem to have the "it" factor.

Poured a 12oz bottle into a Russian River "tion" glass. Couldn't find any dating on the bottle.

Pours a dark honey color and a 1/2 finger head forms, but is gone with the blink of an eye. A nice sporadic lacing is left around the sides of the glass. I smell apricots, bitter hops, grassy notes, and alcohol. I taste notes of malt, malt, and more malt. I catch a bitter backbone from the hops, but this one isn't very balanced. This beer isn't very crisp and the carbonation is just ok. Overall this beer just doesn't do it for me. I would say DIPA is my favorite style and this is trailing way behind the rest of the class.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass. No date on bottle.

Appearance: Bright amber orange with lots of rising bubbles and a big four finger white head with good retention. Lots of lacing present.

Smell: Lots of tropical citrus and pine. Picking up a lot of grapefruit, pineapple, and mango. Hops are present but sort of laid back for a double IPA. Sweet and bready caramel malts are also noticable.

Taste: Hop bitterness is considerably stronger in the taste than the smell. A decent mixture of citrus and earthy hops with some grapefruit, pineapple, orange, and mango with some piney bitterness. A good portion of sweet caramel malts balance things out. Also picking up some little hints of pepper.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Smooth and creamy. Not detecting any alcohol.

Overall: This is a decent double IPA that has some good flavors but overall it is not bold enough. As a DIPA it is a far cry from Lagunitas' own Hop Stoopid.

I've enjoyed this solid beer many times. It has a good deal of hops as well as a nice citrus smell and taste. A: nice dark brown with a fair amount of lacing that doesn't last long. S: citrus/fruity smell very appealing. M: thick full feel, flows well very smooth. T: taste has slight hops and a lot of citrus very good combination and the high abv doesn't come through too strong. O: a very drinkable beer will definitely have it again Lagunitas is a solid brewery I've yet to have a bad beer from them.

From 12 oz bottle to Bruery tulip glass

A: Pours orange-copper in color while forming a tight 1-inch head. Plenty of lacing traces the glass.

S: Really tropical here. Pineapple, maybe a little guava. Sweet, but not bready. Smells almost like a fru fru drink.

T: Tropical for sure, but a lot more piny and bitter than in the nose. Guava, papaya, pineable. Not tasting the grapefruit noticed in the bouquet. There's a lingering sweetness, but it almost taste like it comes from the floral, fruity aspects, not the malts. Finishes bitter-sweet.

M: Surprisingly light for the style. Again, this is a DIPA, so it's far from a crisp lager, but relatively effervescent for the style.

Tasty and unique, overall. I kinda view Lagunitas as the Dogfish Head of the West Coast, and this fits right in with their "off-center" style. I'd definitely hit this again.

A- Deep amber with a creamy head and plenty of CO2 bubbles.

S- HOPPY. Spicy, floral notes although caramel sweetness is present.

T- Sweet mixed with spice, pine, citrus(grape fruit), and flowers. I almost wonder if there is some rye in the malt bill. Seems to have a touch of that rye spiciness to it.

M- Perfect for the style. Not too thick, not too thin. Not over or under carbonated. For the high IBU and the high alcohol content, I think Lagunitas nailed it on this one.

O- Gotta admit that this is my go to brew when I hit this store in the mood for a hop bomb (which is often). At $9 a half-rack, I can't go wrong and I usually can't justify buying any of the $10-$11 selections. Three of these on a week night patio grill session is perfect. Then off to bed for sweet dreams...

A: Golden orange. Small IPA head. Very clear and with carbonation streaming. Decent lacing.

S: Big on the tropical fruits. Mango and pineapple dominate. Sweet malts. It isn't super super strong, and it smells a bit faded... I think I may have gotten an older bottle. Despite this, it still has a great aroma.

T: Tastes like it smells. Kind of like taking a big bite of mango and pineapple, yummy! Generic malt sweetness to balance out the hops without taking their presence away. Not massive flavor, again, it tastes like a shell of what it could/should be. The alcohol is somewhat present throughout, and seems to leave a warmth in my throat in the aftertaste. It almost tastes like a fruity cocktail. Finishes pretty clean. Not a whole lot of bitterness. Does not have a dry finish.

M: Kind of thin, actually. Medium-high carbonation, but small bubbles. Thin and boring.

I picked this one up at a grocery store, although it was refrigerated, there is no telling how long it has been there. I've had Lagunitas before and this one just tastes faded. That being said, what flavor was there was very very nice and what I look for in a DIPA. I wish Lagunitas would put a date on the bottle.

Nose: Exceedingly pleasant. Strong, grassy hops and very estery. Piny and sweet, almost syrupy, but just restrained enough. A touch boozy, but mostly fruity.

Appearance: Thin, ivory head atop a copper orb. Good clarity.

Taste: Complex and heavily bitter. Burnt sugar notes. Malts ride the top of the tongue. Almost creamy, the way a macaroon is - no hint of coconut though. Bitterness of grapefruit and singed grass.

Overall: A great offering. Complex, bitter, big.

Poured a dark orange/copper color from a 12 oz bottle, with ABV on the label.
Nice one finger foamy frothy head that dissipates very slowly.
Aroma is very citrusy, more like a grapefruit assault mixed with floral hops and a slight note of malt.
Taste akin to the aroma is very hoppy. This is definitely a hop-heads delight. The bitterness in the finish is very pleasing.
Excellent lacing all along the insides of the glass.
A very nice, tasty DIPA from Lagunitas. Definitely worth a try, highly recommended.

Pours a reddish orange with a fluffy white head that dissipates after a minute or two but leaves behind a white foam on the top. Sweetish malt on the nose with some grapefruit and a bit of an herbal edge. Some alcohol on the nose as well. Slightly sweet on the palate, hops to back it up, but actually not as hop forward as I was anticipating. Medium to light bodied with a nice finely wound carbonation.

Clear golden amber colored brew, lots of rising bubbles. Good sized white head. Fair amount of lace. Scent is sweet malt and hop oil and some hop oil. I'll of course have to taste it first, but i think i know where this is going.

Yup, i guessed it. Sweet malt start, hops following it up. Grapefruit, floral, bitter, citrus, somewhat bready. Medium to full bodied.

Coming in at 8.2 is even higher than youd expect, the alcohol is WELL blended. Very nicely done, It says its a limited release, i hope i see it again.

Nice copper look to the pour, but head dissipates rather quickly. Nice aroma of hops to it, but not overwhelming. Taste is malty with melon undertones and a hint of Coriander (??) Coats your mouth on the way down, leaves with a malty taste. Some may think its too malty, I prefer a tad bit less malts. Decent strong beer, but alcohol is masked by flavor of malts. Overall pretty decent beer!

High ABV on an inexpensive single got me jonesin'.

App - Copper, carbonated head of minimal size and dissipating rapidly

Smell - hoppy, piney

Taste - a little hoppy bite but a more than overwhelming caramel biscuity malt taste that i guess balances the offering but not when there are so few hops to begin with..

Mouthfeel - kind of cool and different on this one, kind of coats the mouth in a silky fashion

Overall - not too big on this malty aftertaste, etc. but it was worth a try! the carbonation is more than i prefer

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a snifter, no freshness date.

Pours a nice dark copper color with an okay head which quickly dissipates, but leaves a nice lacing. The smell is mostly of hops and some malts. Feel is medium, I actually more sweetness on the tongue than bitter hops. The taste is far sweeter than expected and I'm not sure if the beer is older but the hops aren't very predominate, I get a load of malty sweetness, the after taste is a little grapefruit hops which is nice and it lingers for a while. This is pretty standard for the IIPA, a good beer but I think I'm starting to prefer regular IPAs which don't have the extra malts.

A - Pours a clear light copper color, nearly crystal clear. Head is about one finger in width, doesn't stick around for long but leaves moderate lacing.

S - Smells very strongly of melon, perhaps canaloupe? And is also strong in a yeasty, bready cracker like smell.

T - Remarkably balanced. The bitterness is there but it's not overwhelming by any means. The taste of canaloupe is there and the taste of bread/cracker is there as well.

M - Medium bodied and creamy as well.

O - After getting home on a hot, humid and awful day at work. This beer was the answer to my prayers. It was incredibly refreshing and the alcohol was well masked by the great taste.

Bottle (2011)

Windmill Farms
San Diego, CA

Deep auburn orange with just a touch of haze. Thick off-white head. Dots of lacing down the glass.

An incredibly sweet, though pungent, nearly syrupy, aroma. Some orange and pineapple, but the sweetness is overpowering much of anything else.

An incredibly sweet and syrupy DIPA, which is to say, there's nothing bad or wrong with this, it's just not all that good. An unbalanced, super sweet beer...

...though the mouthfeel is actually pretty nice. It's a bit thick, a touch chewy, and a little oily.

An above average DIPA. I've certainly had far, far worse. This one is just far too sweet and one dimensional--a surprising miss from the brewers that make Hop Stoopid.

12oz Bottle

Appearance - Clear copper colour with a large size frothy beige coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation showing and there is some really good lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, caramel, hops, oranges/tangerines, grapefruits

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel and a decent amount of hops. There is also quite a bit of citrus fruitiness going on. Lots of orange/tangerine and grapefruit notes. I could also pick up on a pineapple taste as the beer got a little warmer. The beer finishes with a citrusy sweet aftertaste with a lingering hop bitterness.

Overall - Loved it! This is exactly how I like my IPA/DIPA's to taste. It's packed full of flavour and the alcohol is very well hidden. It's got lots of fruit juiciness that leaves me wanting to take my next sip as soon as I've finished the last. I'll buy more of this for sure.
