Bottled about 120 days ago.

copper with a finger of fleeting white foam. Some spotty lace. The malts have come through on this one, and they are nice and fruity, apricot fruity. Some hints of grassy and resiny hops. A little hint of citric essence.

Bitter and malty with a spicy tone. I like the fruitiness of the malt backbone here. I feel compelled to find a more fresh bottle so I can dig on the take with the hops. This is a thin brew with moderate carb and wet finish.

I like how the beer comes together being about four months old. I appreciate that the hops are still complimentary, but are subdued revealing a truly appreciable malt profile.

A - Pours a very clear orange/amber with 1 finger, off white head. Very bright beer.

S - Good blend of citrusy, grapefruit and piney hops. Very fruit forward, but you can sense the bitterness in the back ground. Some light malt.

T - Actually starts quite a bit bitter before fading into that grapefruity middle. It finishes a bit watery...almost like a touch of tap water? Mixed with a bit of piney hops.

M - Light in the mouth, not so much crisp as just smooth and flowing.

Overall - Pretty decent beer here. The beer itself seemed a little watered-down in my opinion, almost to the point of being able to taste the water. Still, a pretty good beer here.

Poured this 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams glass. No date but coded 23710218. The body was a deep orange color with a cream head.

The smell was citrus hard candy. Floral and fresh grain. Alcohol.

The taste was rich, dense, bitter, oily hops. Pretty strong malts presence too. Alcohol too. Bold and flavorful.

The mouthfeel was medium to full. Slick texture but adequate carbonation. Classic California DIPA.

This pours a clear burnt orange with a two finger off white head falling with lace into a ring and island. On the nose there is a big sweetbread backbone with orange and floral notes on top. In the mouth there is a big sweet malt component that almost dominates beyond a little citric buzz at the tip of the tongue. As the caramel dies out the hops come out on the long finish. The body is medium and perfectly drinkable, and as the lady says it isn't overly goopy like some other DIPAs, some of which I happen to enjoy a good deal.

Overall, this is a decent brew, but it's in the maltier realm of DIPAs without being really interesting enough to stand apart. We'll probably buy this again because it's competent and inexpensive and available everywhere, but this isn't in the upper echelon of the style.

22 oz. bottle purchased locally, ($4.99). Bottle dated day 277, or October 4, 2011, just under 3 mo. ago. Poured into tulip glass.

A: Clear, amber/copper; 1"+ dense, off-white head that leaves a fine, solid coating of lacing; very slight effervescence.

S: Very sweet caramel and spice; earthy pine.

T: Caramel malt forward, sweet; moderate, piney bitterness appears, then subsides.

M: Chewy and smooth; medium body, low/medium carbonation; dry finish; low heat.

O: A malty DIPA? Overall, quite restrained. Perhaps it has passed its peak. As it is, not an entirely convincing trade-off for 8.2% ABV.
