A - Brown-red body with a silky smooth thin top.
S - Smells tangy and sweet with some malt notes.
T - HUGE malt flavor. Very malty and sweet. Dark syrupy malt and notes of brown sugar and dark dried fruit sugars. Very sweet malty palate.
M - This beer has a very soft and viscous body and goes down smooth like a nitro ale.
O - If you like malty beers, try this one. Its hard to get past anything but the huge sweet chewy malt mouth. I liked it, but it is pretty one dimensional.
Serving type: on-tap

2011 keg. 32oz growler fill from Green's PG, poured into a Conquest snifter.
A: Pours a slightly hazy, rich auburn body, with a half-inch of beige head. The head dissipates to just a ring, but laces through the life of the beer.
S: Caramel, and a lot of pine. Way more pine than I would have expected for a 3-4 year old beer.
T: The hops are not as bitter as might be expected from a fresh American barleywine, but they still take center stage here. Lots of pine, then caramel, followed by a little dark fruit mingling with pine again in the finish.
M: Big, lush, without being syrupy.
O: This is a really good, still hoppy barleywine after all these years. It reminds me of how Old Ruffian ages--very well.
